Every department has different guidelines for debt and drug use.
Yeah you can. Sure depends on department. But with 40,000 in student loans a new car 30,000 and 3,000 in credit card debt I still easily qualify.
I envy you. I'm graduating college in 3 weeks and want to be a police officer, but don't have anything lined up yet
Just go to city police Web site and fill out an application, and prep for the fitness test. If they are not hiring try staye and sheriff's department. Might have to start as a detention officer.
Yeah I've been applying everywhere. Corrections, policing, parole, etc. I'd be happy with any of those things, but policing is the dream. Thanks for the tip though.
Also if your state allows it. Just join a police academy. This gets you post certified. Then getting a job gets way easier. If you're state doesn't allow it take it in another state. Most will pay for the academy when you get hired, but you do have to come up with the money first. (May have to take a few extra training classes if crossing state lines)
I'm in PA. Most departments here require police academy prior to applying, with the exception of a few bigger departments. I applied to a bunch of places in MD, where it seems like departments are more willing to sponsor people. My fear is that I'll sponsor myself and then not be able to find a job, so I'd like to get sponsored.
In my state there is just the one state academy, and it's free for anyone hired by a department. But next door in Colorado a lot of the larger cities have thier own academy.
Oh that's nice. There's academies all over the place in PA. Some cities have their own, others send you to nearby ones, and others leave it to you to figure out.
