A human blockade? You mean,...
Yeah, but when people are in life support, you can't just wait 9 months and they will be alive again - unlike a fetus.
a seed is not a tree
But it will be a tree, and if you stop that seed from growing, you are also stopping that tree from existing.
I'm not upset by someone uprooting a seed, but I'm also not upset with cutting down a tree either. They aren't sentient beings.
A little off topic(really off topic), but cutting down trees doesn't hurt the environment when done right. In the US and I think Canada - you have to plant 2 new trees for everyone you cut down, trees have to be a certain gae before your harvest them, and you can't cut down a tree if a species living in it is threatened or endangered. These laws actually make harvesting lumber good for the environment. Really off track there.
If seeds grew up to be sentient beings, I would be upset about someone purposely going out of their way to make sure they don't grow up. I don't think fetuses are children, but fetuses will grow into children if you don't kill them. If fetuses never grew up I would feel bad about killing them, but they do grow up, and they grow up into sentient human beings with thought and emotions and junk.
Someone in a coma isn't really "alive" per say, and I wouldn't object to pulling the plug on said person if there was a 100% chance they would never wake up. IF a person in a coma would wake back up almost guaranteed after a few years, then I would completely object to pulling the plug.
There is actually a big difference between "not alive" and "not alive yet", at least IMO.
I still support pro-choice, the positive effects it has on our society as a whole far outweighs the instant moral impact (e.g. Unwanted children usually grow up to have painful and depressing lives where they become criminals and cause harm to other human beings), and I truly believe that abortion is often the moral high ground in these cases, less death and suffering in the long run.
perhaps, but you cant compare neglecting a seed to cutting down a tree
Following that logic, masturbation = abortion?
If you keep a sperm from becoming a person(ie shooting into a sock), you're also stopping that person from existing.
Like anyones sperm on FJ could ever reach an egg.
The point I'm trying to make with this argument here isn't pro-life or pro-choice - I'm just trying to point out how futile it is to pick one point in development and say it's okay to abort or this is when the cells become "alive".
Proper condom use .......
- Sounds like commie **** to me
- ..why not just arrest them for the disturbances? seems more li…
Because the penalties tend to be higher. You can arrest people for public intoxication and keep em in the drunk tank overnight and then release them with a minor ticket in the morning.
- so much for freedom
Most of time these lawscare enforced for people doing stupid shit, not "just being drunk" fyi. Like harassing people om the street, yelling, throwing shit, peeing on cars. They dont randomly go up to people after they leave the bar. They usually are either responding to a disorderly person, or see someone falling in the street almost getting hit by cars.
The freedom to get hammered and die in the street without police intervention is not protected in the constitution and I think must people are fine with that.
In my country, if you're too drunk to take care of yourself, the cops will pick you up, put you in some temporary confinement to let you sober up (safely), and send you home once it's safe.
Nice argument, but there's no reason for it to be punishable to be drunk in public.
>no reason for it to be punishable
Because it is a waste of time for the police (public money) and it looks bad
shut the fuck up
Sounds like commie shit to me
- it is in the "free" land of the USA
before and after FJ
- till AI takes those too, ***** gonna down when most of the wor…
If everything is automated and run by AI, it's not like a good quality of life will be hard to produce. The shit that will go down will be trying to stimulate people so they don't get depressed and kill themselves.
and i don't think video games will do it. It's certainly better than nothing, but I don't think they bring enough fulfillment to people's lives to maintain their mental health.

oh alright, that's pretty comparable to where I'm from in New England
