1 Me Gusta
Origin: In March 2010, username "Insert" from reddit posted a
comic on Behan containing a drawing he claims
to have been drawing himself. The original comic was
about a guy being turned on by his cat stretching in a
suggestive" way.
Insert said he didn' t have any real context in mind
when he drew it. When asked, he stated:
l) , there 'wasn' t any. I just drew a
creepy face and was terrified. My first thought was,
lol he looks Mexican. He' s probably saying me
Esta.' As proof, Insert both linked to a biog
where he wrote; "A while ago I drew an ugly race
known as Me Gum. It' s now kind of famous on
Reddit and ychan.", posted on April 21, 2010, and
to his deviantart account "" where he
had uploaded "Me Gusta" on March 18, 2010.
Me Gusta" eventually found its way back to reddit
when a user named "me. gusta" on March 18, 2010
posted a thread with the original comic which he
claimed he had found on ychan. It wasn' t until] 3
year later on March s, 2011 that Insert would
officially claim ownership or the meme in a reddit
thread titled "As requested: I made Me Gum. Ask
me anything.".
2 Challenge Accepted
origin; The phrase "challenge accepted" was first brought to
populare in the TV sitcom show "How I Met Your
Mother" by the character "Barney Stinson".
challenge Accepted" or "Challenge Accepted Guy"
itself was created amongst many others as a part of
the craze that spawned in the late 2008 from
the popular "Rage Guy" comics Some believe that it
was first posted on "Bungle Flood" board while
others claim that the meme is even older than this.
While it' s possible that the meme actually started on
the Bungie forums, it is also likely that it was first
created on Behan as a part or the popular newborn
genre.
3: Pedobear
Origin: "Pedobear" actually originates from another
bear on the Japanese internet forum "Dchannel"
known as "Kuma". However, Kuma (meaning
Bear" in Japanese), a bear drawn only in
ASCII, was as innocent as the children that
Pedobear is trying to catch and had nothing to
do with pedophilia whatsoever. This image
shows the first created ASCII Jurua as he would
ultimately become known:
As Kuma gained popularity on the Japanese forum, his
purpose became to "take the bait" that trolls had been
laying out w hen creating a thread serving as a reference
that the user would not take the bait (because the bear
had been running into the thread to take it before
anyone else).
By now a long dead ASCII meme often refered
to as "Osaka Phone" sketched (young
girl) from the anime "Azumanga Dam"
holding a phone to her ear. originating from
an Osaka Phone thread, Behan decided that the
person she was talking to was Kuma. When
people asked why a bear would can a little girl,
anons decided that the purpose was to have sex
with her and at some point it was proposed that
Kuma was a pedophile.
Unlike the strong similarities, Pedobear did not
actually come from the "Safety Bear" sticker
which only became popular much later.
