During a battle, a nearby star goes nova, and the Protoss fleet are forced to jump out of the system. But in the ensuing chaos, the Mothership "Tassadar's Light", its crew of over 8,000 protoss, as well as two of its fleet carriers, are lost to a never-before-seen anomaly in space. They are jetted to a different time, where the galaxy is far more hateful and where war has been waged eternal. With their numbers few, resources scarce, and their whereabouts unknown, the three vessels must remain in cloak, engaging only when unavoidably threatened.
This scene depicts the Protoss's first encounter with a small Eldar force. Drawn to a distant moon by strange psychic emanations, the Protoss come under attack from the Eldar, and must fend off a Wraithship attempting to flank their flotilla and a contingent of Banshees ambushing their Zealot team. The closed-loop nature of the Khala makes them immune to the external influences of the warp, they are curious to find that psionic powers are more abundant in this time.
For the benefit of those who don't know what the Protoss are, the Protoss are a race of technologically-advanced, psychically-gifted, aliens who form one of the three major factions of the Starcraft Game Universe. Inspired by the Eldar and fusing some aspects of the Imperium, both from the Warhammer 40k universe, the Protoss are honorable enlightened-warriors at best, and self-righteous genocidal extremists at worst. They are atheistic in most cases and do not believe in divine or higher powers, but centers a social system on the strength of their collective unity based on their closed-loop psychic connection; the Khala.

Battle Philosophy: Protoss warriors (Templar) train from decades to centuries in melee combat. They make heavy use of bionic powersuits that enhanced their strength and reflexes while generating a robust plasma shield for ranged and melee protection. Their psionic abilities pushes their individual running speeds to phenomenal levels, in many cases zealots can temporarily turn into pure psychic energy in order to close with opponents in a fraction of a second while their heavier robotic units pound their enemies with ranged energy weapons fire. As Templar advance in rank, they focus training more extensively in psionic abilities, with many capable of manifesting mind reading, mass illusions, and summoning destructive psionic storms, to name just a few powers.
