Metal Gear: Solid

During the first hour or so of the game, in order to progress through the story, it's hinted that you need to check your game's case to get the codec freq. for Meryl.
You can't proceed without this number and the case is the only place it's ever displayed.

This blew my mind as a kid.

I believe it was to prevent piracy.

I'm not sure that's right. I think it's just more fouth wall breaking
and it makes an amazing story. We are still talking about it today so it worked

looking at the back of the case has absolutely nothing to do with the story. its 100% done to prevent piracy. old games used to be chock full of these since you couldnt just look up the codes online as online wasnt really on line back then

Against Psycho Mantis. I used an emulator on PC and the guy made it so you could switch over to using keyboard rather than controller to fight him, or there is something in the game where if you destroy the two busts on the sides of the room you can use the original controller

Iirc codec is a device In mgs that doubles as a radio, as such you can speak with ppl on it with correct frequencies
