And then it was poorly managed into the ground, lost its player base, and became irrelevant over the course of 4 tortuously long years of slow development it's still in Alpha

Here I am in DayZ, defending my town from bambis lol it was good while it lasted

You should try Unturned. Yes, it's a little cartoony and not as realistic as DayZ, but it's in continuous development with a rather large playerbase.

Unturned is no replacement for DayZ. The closest you'll find will be Miscreated or H1Z1.

If there's one game that developmentally is close to DayZ when you're talking about my levels of disappointment, it's H1Z1. Game was a hot steaming mess... when I bought it, I legitimately tried to play it, but after about 10 hours or so, something happened with my account I don't remember exactly what happened that prevented me from logging in. Because of the retarded way Sony had their account protection set up, I was never able to reset my password. At that point I was 200% mad, so I didn't bother going through the billion hoops necessary to reset my ****.

Unturned is free. Yes, that means there are some kids on the game, but you can play single player and there are custom servers that you can set a password to.

You had 1 problem with h1z1 and call it a ****** mess.

Contact support, give the game a try.

You don't have a large amount of games in this genre so you don't get to be salty over 1 problem

Nah man, the account issue was just the last issue that made my will to play the game cave in. It's been quite a while, and I don't remember the host of issues/bugs there were.

Played a good 90-ish hours. Never encountered a bug besides stuff sometimes bugging into walls.

I really don't know what you mean. Try giving it another chance soon.

Yeah, and it's free, too, last time i checked, so in addition to the continuous development, you get to play with a playerbase chock full of kids whose parents didn't let them use their credit cards to buy PUBG, or any similar game.
