If told many people this and always get weird looks. I've met one African American. He was white. Literally born in Africa and moved to America.

Dave Mathews is African American but his black drummer isn't, hence why I've always thought the term is stupid.

He's not African-American though. The term has now become synonymous with black because black people who were brought to America as slaves, do not know what country they were originally from.
Africa is a continent. You do hear Asian-American, but only if you're unsure what country they're from specifically. Then its Chinese-American, etc. You don't hear "European-American"

As a guy who's been banned by blizzard on multiple occasions:

When making these reports, it's usually the first entry that they use, instead of the most offended. It's how they log the chat.
They probably began the record of the chat with this first statement, so the report auto-filled with that being the statement it sent to you.

Like I used to make abortion jokes in trade district in WoW, but when I got banned, I got an email like this, but the "topic" was something mildly unrelated that I put.

I got banned for my gnome dk that i named schutzstaffe.
Also when my 'friend' sent me the gold he owed me, amd thinking he was smart reported it as a hack.
Also when i used honor bot. It bugged and straight up /followed enemies in bgs.

I think i got banned once more but i do not remember the reason

If it isn't the post they banned over, they cannot use it as a reason. By both law and ethics they have to give their reasoning and make it solid. If they accuse you of something, they have to at least try and prove it. I don't entirely disagree but my point stands.

It was probably an explanation on why calling him African-American is racist.
