Hello, hunters! It seems the newest leg of our adventure was announced today, revealing quite a bit of new content to MonHun. Monster Hunter Double Cross is the newest title to the MonHun franchise. First thing to mention is that G-Rank is back, and Barioth and Barroth return as well.
There are now a total of 6 Hunting Styles. Guild, Striker, Aerial, Adept, and now Brave and Mystery Barrel. Brave seems to be a "perfect dodge" kind of style, where your dodges allow you to continue with an animation if it was interrupted by a dodge. Mystery Barrel is just the name people are calling it, as we have no clue what it is, other than, well, it has a barrel. We also have one new Art for each style. Prowlers also have styles now.
We also have a new Deviant, the Massacre Demon Diablos. It is crowned as the leader of the Deviants, you know him well, this flying wyvern can kick some tail. It seems to be a lot faster, stronger, and bigger. May also be G-Rank exclusive.
We have retard cat DLC...
Here we see a brand new waifu being shown in the G-Rank exclusive area (think Elder Hall in 4U).
The G-Rank area is now a Wycademy Airship, we fly boiz now.
We also have seen our new flagship, Barufaruku. It is our third elder dragon flagship, the first two being Kushala Daora and Gore Magala. We also have lore!
This Elder Dragon has been reported all over the world as a giant red light for thousands of years. No one actually knew what this thing was for a long time. It is very to encounter Barufaruku due to flying in very high altitudes. The best chance of encountering one is in huge mountains. Barufaruku is the fastest flying monster known thus far. That title originally went to Shantien.
Occasionally, Barufaruku are encountered by airships, but it flies so fast that pilots can't react in time. This monster crashes into airships, sending the riders straight to the ground. Barufaruku's wings are different from other known monsters. It fires some type of flames from its wings, which it allows it to fly at high speeds. This makes it hard to keep track of it, so it is suggested to look for a giant red light. It can place its wings in two different directions: Backwards and Forward. When the wings are forward, it can fire the Dragon Element from its wings like missiles. It even change its wings into a blade-like form, similar to Glavenus's blade-like tail.
We also have a new, G-Rank exclusive area, the Ruined Ridge, also where you fight Barufaruku.
While the Ruined Ridge is the newest area, we will also be seeing the Old Desert from the original Monster Hunter, and the Tower, which has been present in numerous titles.
Well, let's summarize what we've learned today:
- New Elder/Flagship: Baru
- Return of Barrioth and Barroth, as well as possibly others (like Diablos)
- New Area, Ruined Ridge
- Returning Areas: Old Desert, The Tower
- 2 New Styles, Brave and "Mystery Barrel", as well as one new art for every style, and styles for prowlers
- G Rank
- Massacre Demon Diablos, the crown of the deviants
Other notes to add that at least in Japan, there will be hands-on events for people to fight Baru, idk about the states.
Now, while this stuff is all cool, it has me greatly concerned for the franchise. First off, it's only been a year since MHX came out in Japan, and I'm afraid MonHun will be the CoD of Nintendo, a new one every year. My second, even bigger concern, is that so far we've seen this game on 3DS, but the Nintendo Switch releases in March on 2017. I doubt Japan will be this game by then, the same with the rest of the world. I'm worried this game won't do so hot as it'll be a 3DS game being released during the life of the big boom of the Switch, causing the game to not do so hot. TLDR, I hope theres a Switch port for the game.
Well, if you have any requests, comments, or anything else about MonHun comps and facts/info, let me know below!
Psst, here's the official reveal trailer.
