Did you know, on June 6th, 2006, that player Cursed You's level 99 Construction party caused one of the biggest and infamous glitches in runescape history? The house was packed, causing mass lag. Cursed You kicked everyone and players in a Combat Ring (A safe zone for PvP in the house) were allowed to attack players outside of the house with no retaliation.
Perhaps the most infamous player from this event known as Durial123 went of a mass killing spree, targeting lower level players for an hour before being permanently banned from Runescape by a Jagex Moderator.
Billions of GP were lost and no one got their items back, along with Cursed You, who was banned without taking part in the killing himself.
Did you know, in December 2007 Runescape released the Aftermath of the Bounty Hunter update, which removed Free Trade, Wilderness PK and imposed Trade Limits on all Trades and Stakes in duels? If players wanted to trade items, they needed to trade items within the same price range as well, starting at a 3k GP Price gap, up to 60k GP if you had sufficient Quests completed as a Member
This incited Mass rage among the Runescape community. Many complained this destroyed many activies done in the game, such as PvP, transferring items between accounts, trading items between friends and Merchanting in general. Riots occurred in game on the day of release on many worlds, with many people gathering in areas to express their displeasure of the updates.
For 4 years, players were held under the Trade limit and the lack of true PvP outside of Bounty Hunter, Clan Wars and Duel Arena. However, on December 21st, 2010, Jagex released a poll asking if players would want the old Wilderness and Free Trade back.
Over 1 million players voted in the poll, with 91% of the votes saying Yes, Free Trade and Wilderness PK would be back in the game. Released back into the game on February 1st , 2011, players could finally party like it was 2006.
