no it just means her judgement is to be taken with a grain of salt. if she says a known racist is a good and kind hearted man and then someone whos never been known to be a racist she calls a racist then calls her husband a good family man even knowing hes cheated on her multiple times and she has covered it up by destroying the names of the women hes had sex with or just had sexual relations with well you tend to think twice before trusting people she trusts after that.

well people change especially those who really want to change but no matter how someone changes on the outside on the in they never truly change. so i respect that he wanted to no longer be a part of that life and i respect that he tried to move forward and maybe? be a better person but that still doesnt improve my thoughts on her and her trust towards him because(and this is just what ive read into it so if im wrong im wrong) she trusted him as a mentor before he recanted that past. then again sometimes you really never know someone. could know them for years and never know the darker parts of their life.

Not a defense of Clinton but a defense of Byrd. Plenty of people DO change, the US as a whole has changed from the era where Byrd could be a proud public member of the KKK. Plenty of former racists, not just people who said the n-word but were sheet wearing members of the KKK and jackboot wearing Neo-Nazis have changed. Most changed after actually meeting minorities, they saw that their opinions were wrong. They saw their hate was wrong.

i worded it wrongly. its not that people dont change its that there is always something that remains. he may not be a member of the kkk or a huge racist but part of his past remains with him. thats not to say that he is still a racist or that he will always be a racist or even that his views on non white people are entirely the same just that something always remains from who he was before. as i said i worded that horribly wrong i didnt mean to say that he would never or could never change. its my personal opinion based on my own personal experiences.

Well of course something remains of ones past. Its like the Dark Side, forever will it dominate your destiny. We are built on our past like a layer cake.

For former racists their racist past is the reason they are who they are, their former hate and bigotry informs their outlook and personality same as anyones past will. Me being a former proto-emo goth ripples through time and space and spaghetti to effect who I am now even if I no longer am goth.

One cannot escape their past but one can learn from it, be better then it. For former racists thats means embracing humanity with all its variations and loving it, for me its looking down at modern emos and goths for being pussies who paint on scars and cuts and wouldn't know pain if somebody kicked them in their tight pant encased balls.

id rather reserve judgement for a man/woman until i know them personally. i understand people change and like i said previously for those who truly wish to change they can become a better person but as someone from outside this particular situation i only know who he has been not who he chose to be but from my own particular experiences even when someone tries to change from their past it always surfaces. yes it will always be a part of you and yes mistakes will happen but when you choose to go back even for a moment you ruin what you have tried to become.

ill be honest with you im being overly sensitive with this situation who knows maybe he truly became a great person but because of who he associates with(hillary and bill) i find it hard to fully trust him as a person.

Withholding judgement until actually meeting someone is a good idea though you can't meet everyone not even for meat. Robert C Byrd, I dunno if he's reformed, I might live in his state but I've never met the guy, WV might be a friendly state but not everyone knows everyone. You can only go by his actions since then.

But thats the same for anyone. A person who crows how they aren't racists and a good person but is kind of a cunt and shares racist memes probably isn't going to be who they say. Someone who actually tries to be a good person and act racist might be more like to not be. Much of time I think that is the past surfacing, what we are is the sum of our experiences. A person who has never seen the evil of racism or the value in kindness probably won't care much about being a racist douche, someone who had experience racism and known what a kind act can mean might not be. Or they could use their experiences to be racist cunts too, with the thought that since someone was racist towards me and I didn't have everything everyone else should suffer.

I don't think you are being overly sensitive, I think you are in some ways being a realist though also a pessimist. People do let you down, this is a lesson I've learned far too well. People are bastards, too many people don't want to change they just want to change how others view them. People are perfectly happy wallowing in hatred and suffering because its not their suffering and they are no the object of hate.

But personally I try to be somewhat positive, I try to believe people can change so that there is some small hope for me.

Also, yeah I don't trust or even particularly like Byrd just for his association with Billary. One thing I've always stuck by is the saying judge someone by the company they keep. If I hung out with people having Confederate Rebel Scum flag ************ where and Nazi regalia collected for some darker purpose then an appreciation of history or being a kinky ****....or airsoft, I'd probably not fault someone for calling me a racist. Just the same while I won't call Byrd a racist because he no longer gets his sheet on, I will call him a bastard for hanging out with bastards.

i guess i may be more on the pessimist side when it comes to people. i went through most of my lifes problems as a child so now as an adult im overprotective of my relatives that are children. my experiences in life have made me this way so as you say it wouldnt be far fetched to believe that his experiences in life have led him to lead a life where he chooses to help his fellow man regardless of skin color; or he could hide behind a false mask of friendship and aid in the further harm of people based on their skin behind closed doors. i dont know the man and never will even though i lived in wv for a few years myself i met quite a few people there who i still dont understand. an ex i had her parents were racists and hated me because i have a half black brother(not actually black just a name) but then loved her next bf who has arabic ancestry. ive met black people who are the coolest people i could meet and some far more racist than most racists ive met there. people are crazy and you never know what you are gonna get
