Investigative journalism is dead. They just pay some schlub to dig around on Reddit and Twitter and package it into some turd pill for everyone to swallow. There are a few investigative journalists left, like Tim Pool. He recently went to Sweden and went to the no go zones to see if they were as bad as reported. Surprise. They were.

Even if that's true, that Associated Press are and have been unbiased for the entirety of them running, why would they not just tweet out the same message with "God is good" replaced by "Allahu Akbar?" Is that not unbiased?

I don't know, you're really just splitting hairs here. Both "allahu akbar" and "God is great" can give two separate impressions, and both could be considered biased.

If AP said "allahu akbar", I could easily say that they're trying to paint a common Muslim prayer as a terrorist prayer Which is just an example, I'm not actually saying that.

If AP said "God is Great", I could accuse them of trying to hide the ethnicity of the attacker to manipulate the public.

Both statements are entirely accurate. There's no way to say it that can't be misconstrued as being propaganda. In the content they said they weren't aware he said it in Arabic. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, given their history as a fairly centrist news source.

If they said "allahu ackbar" they would be reporting what was said.

They completely avoided saying "allahu ackbar," which is very commonly associated with islamic terrorism, specifically because it is commonly associated with islamic terrorism. Everyone reading that tweet knows the phrase "allahu ackbar." There is absolutely no reason to translate it, except to spin the story away from islamic terrorism.
That's the bias.
You can't call an exact quote a biased quote unless it is being quoted out of context which, in this case, it is not.

It's literally the same phrase just translated. Except "allahu akbar" has a different ring to it that "god is great".

Again, they also could have just been misinformed. They clearly addressed the mistake.

I actually think it's okay for them to put the translated version. What if they said something like"almawt 'iilaa alkuffar"? I can guarantee that 90% of people here don't speak Arabic so literally noone would understand what was being said unless they translated it. I mean sure you could run it through google translate but that would make putting the non-translated version redundant.

Here, there is context to the quote in the native language. If a German yelled a paragraph at me, I'd need a translator. If someone yells "allahu akbar" I understand what it is and as well, associate a type of person who would say this and why they might say it.

It's not the same as translating thoughts in a debate.

Because it makes little difference and both have massively different implications.

If I you had to picture someone who would say "God is Great' you'll probably get many different types of people. It's only made worse by the 'god' and 'God' issue.
Then If you had to picture someone who would shout "Allah Akbar" you're going to imagine drastically different people. Nuance matters.

Yes, but the general association of the word "God" is with Christian religions (Catholic, Methodist, etc.), while the word "Allah" is almost always associated with Islam. Translating the phrase "Allahu Ackbar" into english ("God is great") gives the unintended (or intended I don't know) side effect of people associating the attack with Christianity rather than Islam.

It's more or less God = Christian, Allah = Islam

As such, their decision to translate this was totally right.

"Allah Akbar!" ~ Implies he is some denomination of Muslim

By using "God is great!" in lieu of "Allah Akbar!" you're telling an implicit lie, which is roughly equally as bad as outright lying if its done by a journalist.

They left out a detail and stated they are fixing it. Seems like the use of the term "fake news" is a little misleading don't you think Unless there was obvious intent to mislead shown that I am unaware of. ?

Well I would not say it was misleading at all. I think this is slightly more telling but the old tweet should not have been misleading to anyone who has followed any news about muslim terrorism in the last 10 years.

I mean the new tweet is more clear but the old tweet posted is technically accurate and had I read that I would have figured Muslim as "god is great" is the direct translation.

Again to be clear I am glad they changed it but I cannot see how this could mislead anyone who follows the news even remotely closely.

thats the whole point, a person is smart, people are dumb. without being thorough, opposing opinions will use even typos as leverage. 2 opposing news channels can have one glorify someone's actions as a hero while one deems them a horrible person.

Oh I agree with you there. I think it was not an optimized decision to release the original as is. I just feel like this post was very accusatory by utilizing the term "fake news".

Another thing to keep in mind was that this was Twitter. You are limited on what you can say. Had they left that detail out of an article it would have been a huge failure. In this case I just feel they quickly gave a few details and figured the full story would speak the details.

I agree with you but feel that this should be more of a celebration rather than a harsh criticism not that you are . The original post, while not as good as the repost, was not showing signs of intentional misleading which is what I feel is kind of being pushed on this content.
