One of my favorite species of folklore creature is the fairy, as they are extremely versatile, mischievous spirits which means there's a lot one can do when writing fantasy tales that draw inspiration from Celtic Ireland, Scotland, and England (I'd say Wales, too, but, really, who gives a **** about them?)
Among fairies, one of my favorites is the Clurichaun.
This drunken little ******** is a Clurichaun, a buttery spirit that seen as either a Leprechaun's night form, or a cousin to the Leprechaun.
As a buttery spirit, the Clurichaun's main focus is booze, specifically wine. It is said that if you treat a Clurichaun well, it will protect your wine cellar from intruders. However, if you royally piss it off, it'll spoil your wine, **** up your wine cellar, and wreak havoc on your home.
Clurichauns are also said to watch the behavior of bar-goers. Drunkards, thieving servants, and general ass-hats are plagued by Clurichauns. As mentioned above, this entails spoiled wine, a ****** up wine cellar, and a ****** up home. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as just moving away from these bastards, either.
They're persistent. Story goes that attempts to escape the Clurichaun will only result in the Clurichaun following you to your new home, likely by hiding in a casket.
Beyond drinking, though, they have other hobbies. If Clurichauns are just Leprechauns during the night, then they would also enjoy shoe shining, smoking, etc. However, they have another...strange hobby.
Clurichauns have been noted to ride sheep and dogs like horses.
That's pretty much all I could find on Clurichauns, as they're a relatively obscure fairy. That also means I couldn't find any stories on them.
If you happen upon any stories, then I'd love to read them, so send those on over.
If you have any idea of what I should do next, leave a comment.
