Greetings from germany.
Soo... I recently started GMing a "Stars Without Number" Campain with a completely original story with 3 of my closest friends and my brother as the players and I´m really having the time of my life. My players are cool and diverse just as much as their respective PC´s (to give you an idea i´ll just describe em to you real quick):
-Iwilas: A troll-like xeno who grew up on a deserted snow-planet where he got adopted by a bear. (you´ll never see him alone since he´s dragging his pet-bear "raki" everywhere) he´s on a quest of revenge since poachers killed and stuffed the cub of said pet bear.
-Blake Outington: Just your average, everyday pilot who just graduated from a Military Air/Space-force academy. He is now working as the
(you guessed it) pilot of the crew. He´s mostly in the background just chillin and waiting for an opportunity to be a smartass.
-Tentai: (yes i know) The only female player who is playing an aquatic xeno with tentacles for hair, who is the daughter of some really rich priest. (giving her PC a really spoiled self-centered personality) She´s the only psychic PC on the ship and she generally just gets upset about everyone and everything.
-Jeff: (My personal favourite) A space-Trucker/Redneck with a silver tongue
who likes his double-barreled shotgun "Daisy" just a bit too much.
Anyway here´s my Problem: you see, i really f**kin´ love creating NPC´s with well thought out personalities, backstories, equipment, etc.
And considering this is the first time i´m GMing i´m afraid of annoying my players with giving my NPC´s too much spotlight (since some of the
NPC´s in my story are supposed to join the crew at some point) and i dont want to spoil the fun for my PC´s but i also REALLY wanna use these NPC-concepts to their fullest potential.
So yeah, i´m just wandering if there are any experienced GM´s/DM´s around here who can help me with a sort of "PC/NPC screen time ratio"
(metaphorically speaking i don´t want an actual chart just an idea when to let my NPC-crewmembers make a move and how to treat them outside of just helping the PC´s in combat.)
I´m apologizing for the needlessly long text and any errors in terms of grammar.
