Just a fun little story from my last DnD session:
>3rd time playing DnD
>Finally starting to get the hang of things
>My DM knows I made a terrible character choice, so he let's me change things up
>It actually falls in line perfectly with the story
>no harm no foul
>I choose to be an assassin rogue with a smuggler criminal background
>Group just burned down a tavern
>Long story, I have explained before:
>We need to get out of town
>After a long search, we come across a large special gate
>Can't remember the name of it, but it was special
>The gate is locked
>Go to lockpick the gate
>break pick off in lock
>"Don't worry guys, I am a master criminal."
>*begin kicking door*
>"I do this all the time"
>Keep kicking door
>DM: Roll atheletics
>DM: "The door doesn't budge, and you actually hurt you foot kicking it"
>"I bump the lock"
>anon 1: "didn't mythbusters prove that is a myth?"
>We're all new to this, so we break character often to joke around
>Back in character
>"I AM A MASTER CRIMINAL! I BUMP THE LOCK!"
>DM is a cool guy
>DM: I'll allow it
>DM: "You know. That lock was really jammed, but you are a master criminal, and you somehow mangae to retrieve the broken segment of your lockpick back, and pick the lock to open the door."
>DM: "As you walk through the door, you see a corridor that leads to the other door..."
>"I BUMP THE LOCK!"
>DM: "You did it once, a second time is child's play, you easily open the door."
