My Hypothesisthehistorylover disneytimeAdjust content blockingContent Blocking prevnext Prev Next I have a hypothesis about Disney princesses. It concerns the goddess Persephone, from the ancient Greek polytheistic religion (she was the beautiful wife and niece of Hades). So, way back in the 1930s, the artists at Disney wanted to practice more realistic female humanoid animation. This was pre-Snow White. The animation that came from it was The Goddess of Spring. I'll try adding the video. If it doesn't work, here is a link. You need to login to view this link While the story isn't 100% just like the original Greek myth (the one about the Underworld king Hades kidnapping Persephone to make her his queen), it is clearly based on that story. Also note that the Goddess frolics among nature, animals, and such. This is similar to the behavior of many early Disney princesses, such as Snow White and Aurora. I also noticed something on TVTropes. You need to login to view this link The "Persephone" type of heroine seems to match a few more stereotypical Disney princesses, and maybe a few less stereotypical. It's probably not related to Disney ... but I thought it was a good note on storytelling tropes. My hypothesis is that Persephone, one of the lesser talked about Greek goddesses, was the main inspiration for the Disney princess stereotype. So ... what do you think? prevnextTags: goddess | persephone | greek +5 -Favorite +Favorite Unblock User's Content Block User's Content Sub/Block Channels disneytime:UploadUnblockBlockSubUnsubsubs: 34
