Hello Hunters! We have another MonHunFact Comp, this time on Monster Hunter's Newest, and craziest final boss yet, Atoraru-Ka. Now, there are actually very few images of the monster itself, but I've found all 5 of its themes (yep, FIVE themes for this gal), and they have a few pics. Theyre each about 10 mins long, but also can be a bit of entertainment for you the reader! But enough stalling, you came here to learn about this badass bug.
So, Atoraru Ka, we'll call her Ato for short, is a neopteron added in Monster Hunter Double Cross. It is a giant mantid with webslinging capabilities. Thats right, this thing isn't even an elder dragon, it's on the same level as a Seltas. All Ato encountered are female.
Like the seltas, Ato are stonger, bigger females from males. Ato are born brown, but females gain a golder coloration from eating males. The more males she eats, the golder she gets. The ato specifically fought in XX has eaten a massive amount of males, her silk even turned into a golden color.
Atoraru-Ka is called the Pavilion Mantis by the Guild, but Hunters give her a different name, the Walking Treasure. She not only has earned this title for her gold coloration, but by the fact she hordes massive amount of treasure. Females will travel from fortress to castle, hunting for more and more treasure. Even while fighter her, she drops powerful charms from fallen hunter.
Females will not walk from location to location, however. Females have learned to construct massive puppets they use for numerous purposes. The puppet fought in XX is classified as a "transportation puppet" and is used to walk from place to place. These puppets are so terrifying, that they frighten the largest of monsters, including lao shen lung, usually scared by only one other monster, the dreaded Fatalis.
The puppet is called by hunters as the queen's "Throne", and is used to destroy entire castles.
Now, Atoraru-Ka are extremely intelligent, possibly one of the smartest monsters in the franchise so far. It's puppets, while shoddy put together, are not powered by puppetry alone. When the puppet is tied together by Ato's webs, numerous machines can be heard powering up, meaning Ato knows how to use electrical currents to power it's puppets to help with mobility. On top of that, Ato also know how to use dragonators, it's 4th form featuring Ato using only dragonators, and throwing them at hunters, and simulating their destructive powers. They also have an understanding of pulleys and wheels, it's 5th form using a giant wheel not only as a weapon, but as a form of mobility during the fight.
Her armor, the female's blademaster and gunner featured, has two skills and 13 open slots, allowing lots of room for skills to be added in. Her two skills are the illustrious Skill +2 and Charm Up. Skill +2 adds two additional skill points to all skills shown on the hunter's skill chart. So, razor sharp +8 with Skill +2 is now razor sharp +10, and you get access to the skill. Her other skill, Charm Up, doubles all skill totals on charms. This means a charm with +5 Sheathing and +5 Weakener now has +10 Sheathing and +10 Weakener. This also applies to skills gemmed into the talisman. Really, Atoraru Ka armor, I believe it is called "Gold Mantis Armor", is a big math game, and will be heavy meta until more DLC armor is added.
Finally, one thing that makes this big bug a big deal, is that it has 5 phases. In the traditional main series, monsters of end-game caliber, like gogmazios, nakarkos, dalamadur, dire miralis, etc, get only two phases, usually consisting of changing the area the monster is fought in, like ceadeus or lao shen entering an arena, or the monster's physical form and attacks changing, like gog flying or shageru using all 4 forearms. In Frontier, the japanese monster hunter mmo, only two monsters have five phases, Shantien, the god of rain, skies, storms and death, and Laviente, the ecosystem eater.
Atoraru-Ka's five rounds are each unique, 3 without the puppet, 2 with. Her first form is a basic hunt, with her using a giant metal slab as a weapon, and slowly pulling her puppet together. Her second and 4th phase feature her puppet, usually stomping around. Here, hunters must climb on the mech and destroy the golden chunks of her past boyfriends to help destroy the threads holding the puppet together. Her 3rd form features her using a crane and numerous dragonators. Her 5th and final phase features her giant wagon wheel, which she drives and swings around. Once defeated, players can carve her and unlock the ending cutscene.
Well, that's the end of this of this comp! I hope you've enjoyed the music and info on Atoraru Ka, the cannibal queen/puppet master/bug/master mechanic of Monster Hunter. Let me know if I should include music in future fact comps, and if there's anything you guys would like to see covered in future fact comps!
