Manafort, a longtime Republican political consultant, also called on the Justice Department’s inspector general to investigate the leak of details of secret surveillance warrants obtained by U.S. investigators. “Mr. Manafort requests that the Department of Justice release any intercepts involving him and any non-Americans so interested parties can come to the same conclusion as the DOJ — there is nothing there," Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni said in a statement. CNN reported that investigators obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against Manafort prior to the presidential election. The wiretapping continued into early this year, according to CNN’s unnamed sources. A secret order authorized by the court that handles the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) began after Manafort became the subject of an FBI investigation that began in 2014. It centered on work done by a group of Washington consulting firms for Ukraine's former ruling party, the sources told CNN. The surveillance was discontinued at some point last year for lack of evidence, according to one of the sources. The FBI then restarted the surveillance after obtaining a new FISA warrant that extended at least into early this year. This comes after a period, where former DNI James Clapper had confirmed that if a FISA warrant existed for a wiretap, he would know about it. James Clapper denied the existence of a wiretap on the Trump Campaign or Trump Tower. dailycaller.com/2017/09/19/manafort-c... www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/09/18/f... Hurricane Maria heads to Puerto Rico and the Virgin islands Hurricane Maria is taking aim at Puerto Rico as the Category 5 storm barreled toward the U.S. territory Tuesday night with disastrous winds and "life-threatening" flooding, according to forecasters. Maria, a "potentially catastrophic" storm, has top sustained winds near 175 mph, and was located about 160 miles southeast of San Juan, as of the National Hurricane Center's 8 p.m. advisory. The major hurricane was moving to the west-northwest at 10 mph, and "some fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next day or two," according to the NHC. "Conditions will continue to deteriorate across the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, with the worst conditions there early Wednesday morning," Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean said Tuesday. "Puerto Rico is forecast to take a direct hit from this major hurricane on Wednesday, with the worst conditions from late Wednesday morning through Wednesday afternoon." Tuesday afternoon saw Puerto Rico slammed with rain, and officials have warned residents to leave the Caribbean island or face death. "You have to evacuate. Otherwise, you're going to die," said Hector Pesquera, Puerto Rico’s public safety commissioner. "I don't know how to make this any clearer." www.foxnews.com/world/2017/09/19/hurr... The disease, Thelazia callipaeda or oriental eye worm, is transmitted by a type of fruit-fly that lands on the eyes and deposits infective larvae. Cats, dogs and people catch it from the flies, which feed on eye secretions. There have been three recent canine cases reported in the UK, but the animals had been imported from abroad. One had been brought to the UK from Romania. The other two had recently travelled to mainland Europe with their owners. All made a full recovery following drug treatment and eye washes to flush out the adult worms. Britain has the same type of fruit-fly - Phortica variegata - and the concern is these could become infected and then spread the condition to people and animals in the UK, says veterinary expert John Graham-Brown, from Liverpool University, in the BMJ publication Veterinary Record. Mr Graham-Brown said there was no risk of people catching the infection directly from their pets. But dog owners should be on the lookout for signs of the infection in themselves and their pet if they had recently travelled to places where the disease was endemic. Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Greece, Belgium and Serbia have reported locally transmitted cases. Infected animals show a variety of symptoms, from mild conjunctivitis (pink eye) to severe corneal ulceration, which, if untreated, can lead to blindness. Fully grown adult worms might also be visible, but the microscopic larvae cannot be seen with the naked eye. Mr Graham-Brown said: "So far, there has been only one strain of the infection round in Europe. But it's been spreading quite rapidly recently. We are not sure why, we do have this type of fly in the UK as well, so there is the potential for an infected dog to come back and give it to the fly here, and then it could spread." www.bbc.com/news/health-41304536 veterinaryrecord.bmj.com/content/earl...
