recent retellings have made it seem like Persephone had a modicum of agency so when hades kidnapped her she ate the fruit of her own free will. And there's nothing saying that they aren't happy together in future myths.

She was tricked. She thought she was just eating the fruit, but it was actually hades' 'seed'. For the gods, once you do that you're married. So she has to go to the underworld for at least 6 months, i think, and during that time winter happens
