It would quickly break up into droplets, like throwing a bucket of water off of a building, but would result in several seconds of intense rain before clearing up.

And the same for rain? Like everyone's walking around and its overcast so people know its coming and are watching the skies, and suddenly the shout goes up: "OH **** HERE IT ******* COMES" and there's a meter's worth of water falling as a blanket. It hits and smashes up some ****, knocks people over, and there's a half meter of standing water everywhere for about 5 minutes until it works its way downhill/to drains/soaks into the soil, etc.

less than an inch of compacted snow can crack a windhield when it flies of a car roof at 40kmph. Now imagine 6 inches of the stuff plummeting at 9.8m/s.

6 inches of snow x the area of whatever cloud it's coming from x avg weight of snow at 15 lb per cubic feet. All that ******* mass plummeting down at gravitational speed is definitely a no bueno situation.

There's a reason why in snowy areas we have to build to accommodate the dead weight of snow. **** can and will crush you even if it's soft powder.

9.8m/s^2 is the acceleration so taking the height of snow clouds as 2000 meters (might be different) would come to 198 m/s when hitting the earth disregarding air resistance.

with air resistance a cubic foot of snow should come down at around 7.97m/s or 28.70km/h i think.

that alone will probably crush your skull

Hold on, you're going from 198 m/s with no air resistance, to 7.97 m/s with air resistance? I'm no physicist, but I'm pretty sure a block of snow moving at terminal velocity will be moving a hell of a lot faster than someone running really fast.

ye i think i ****** up but i took wrong numbers anyways. one cubic foot of snow should weight around 1.7 kg (if it´s new snow not when it´s cramped up on a roof) and it´s terminal velocity would be around 9,08m/s.

you have to consider that snow is not really dense when falling from the sky so it´s kinda light.

that means it doesn´t have alot of potential energy when the fall start´s so the kinetic energy will also be pretty low. a cube doesn´t have a very aerodynamic form when it falls flat down which would be the case if we take the original example, a wide layer of snow, so the drag would have no problem keeping it from falling fast.

Well I guess this is where it would all get hypothetical, because it would depend on the density of the snow, which can vary wildly based on the conditions in which it was made, as well as how compact the cube is.

Either way, it would be scary.

take the height of the cloud´s of 2000 meters and calculate the velocity with the earth´s gravitaional acceleration (9,82m/s^2. but what comes out here is kinda irrelevant.

now you take the drag coefficient of a cube which is 1.05, the mass of your cube and the height of the fall and enter that into the formulas and you come out with the numbers.

i just did it roughly taking a cube because it get´s kinda more complex if you want to calculate that with a 6 inch deep layer of snow that is some miles across. the drag coefficient would change etc.
