For communism to work would require people to produce according to their ability, and consume according to their needs. In layman's terms: Work your ass off and get only basic necessities in return. In order to make that work, you would need very strong leadership that is unafraid to use violence against their own people. And now you have created a rent-seeking elite, thereby destroying the communist system.

It can't work anywhere, not even in the tiniest village.

I think it can only work on a family level, if family members are not arguing too much with each other. It can work on a village level, but that's even harder. Villagers are usually stubborn and usually have stupid reasons to not like their neighbors.

I'm not sure if it would work on a scale of a small town.

But that's just my speculation.

communism in theory should allow everyone to be able to STAY ALIVE but not live happily due to the lack of entertainment.

but in practise, humans are way too garbage to make it work and it just makes people suffer needlessly

The main issue people have with socialism is that a large portion of society wants to live in a capitalistic nature yet have the benefits of socialism without contributing. Hence why the US debt is ludicrous and advancement has almost stopped.

Ex: A person wants to live in a big expensive city with the opportunity to work where ever and have the luxury of several choices of entertainment and many different places to buy goods from, yet expects the government to supply healthcare, child support for single parenthood, phone bills, food stamps, welfare, etc. Since the government is paying for everything I have no need for a job. About 50% of people do the same. Now companies have no workers and have to shut down. Large companies - corporations - have monopolies and ties to the government. Some people don't qualify for government handouts, so they need a job and corporations are all that's left. Leaders of corporations decide on allowed morals to be employed. Next thing you know, YouTube is shadow censoring content creators and they are going unemployed unless they turn to the government or change their views. Eventually everyone is the same.

I made a few jumps there and went to extremes, but I just didn't want to type anymore. But this is also the path that the US is on because so much of the population has realized that they can get away with living off of wealth from their parents or from the government. A little socialism is not a bad thing, but when your society has 300 million people, and 10% live off of the government, that's still 30,000,000. Not a single western government can expect to support 30,000,000 people without having to move to a harsh type of regime, such as communism.
