I think Iwata was directly responsible for Pokemon not failing. I read somewhere that he repeatedly shot down OC proposals by Game Freak. Now he can't shoot them down, and stuff is coming out that does nothing but rely on its name as a Pokemon game. Like the Eevee/Pikachu games do nothing but pat themselves on the back 100% of the time.
When he died, a lot of things started changing more than being added. Most of them are questionable, and people are starting to notice the quality dropping off while the price tags pop up in way more places than usual
