First things first, check this out! My girlfriends dad snagged me a ********* of steel from his workplace. Lawn-mower blades aside, it's all mild steel with nearly no carbon, but they'll be PERFECT for making things like guards/pomels/axes and the-like, when I get around to trying that stuff
But now for why you're here, to see a sugoi, weeby Kunai desu-desu oni-chan baka-sama that'll make your kokoro go doki doki-san!
In my last post where me and gandr made a tanto, satoasami suggested that I make a Naruto-styled Kunai; A Japanese Ninja throwing knife. Since I've been considering making one for a while, and saw the opportunity to make this month sorta "weeb-themed" I thought, sure why not!
In this photo, I've very roughly marked out the general shape I'm going for onto a pre-straightened lawn-mower blade and made sure that I would have enough material. Then I put the piece in the drill-press vice to create a 1/2in hole.
Since a 1/2in hole is not large enough to fit much of a finger through,
I heated the steel and used my punch to drift the hole a bit. Drifting is a process in which you hammer a piece of steel (the drift) through a hole to stretch it larger.
*Insert lewd blacksmith joke here*
With the hole a larger size, I am now able to fit about half of my finger through it. Afterwards, I marked out a better final-design and cut/shaped the steel to the blank-stage.
Before I light the forge and get ready to heat-treat the blade, lets talk about Jone's Cream Soda, shall we?
It tastes like magic and losing your virginity.
After heating the blade to a dull orange and quenching in water, I realized "Huh.. I probably should have recorded that in slow-motion.. Welp.... Oopsies.."
In this photo, I've cleaned the scale off of the blade and tempered back the hardness with my mini-propane torch, so that the tip would be the hardest point on the kunai.
In this photo I began grinding the back bevels.
The way that I ground the bevels on this resulted in a hexagonal point and an octagonal body. In other words; It doesn't cut like a knife, it just stabs.
And a leather-wrap/ glamour-shot, because making things look sexier is always fun
And a video, because why not lol. Sorry this weeks project was a bit "quick and dirty," I sort of misjudged how much time it would take.
That's all for this week, I hope you enjoyed! Next week I've got a build planned that I think you'll all enjoy even more too, so be sure to check back next Friday
As always, thank you all for your support! Thumb if you enjoyed, and join the mention list if you're new
Have a fantastic weekend FunnyJunk!
Very Special Thanks to my Apprentice Tier Patrons!:

This week there was no special digital design since it was so heavily derived from Naruto. I apologize $5 Patrons.
