First things first, I grind off the disgustingly rusty, scaled outer layer and achieve a pretty flat surface
This will also allow me to have a clean surface for scribbing.
I put down some Blue Dykem metal-stain and scribe where the material needs to be cut.
So after cutting, grinding, and fighting this
乇乂ㄒ尺卂 ㄒ卄丨匚匚
material for a while, I finally have all 90 degree angles
I have an enormous respect for Vertical Milling Machines now.
They make this **** look easy.
Takes them minutes, but it took me hours!
Anyway MORE DYKEM!
Here I've scribbed my lines in preparation for chamfer grinding~
Aw yis~
So grind~
Such accurate~
Next I layout where the holes need to be for the paracord to pass through, and center-punch a dimple so that the drill-bit will start the hole correctly
After drilling the initial holes, I use a drill-bit 4 sizes larger than the original to create a nifty lookin' recess
Now for the triangles and a new piece of steel!
Before I cut them out, I go ahead and drill the holes.
I do this so that I can hold the pieces more easily in the Drill-Press vice.
PROTIP:
Smaller pieces are harder to hold steady and also a triangle is a weird shape. I would risk deforming the point on one side if I cut them out first. Gotta plan ahead
This process feelin' familiar yet?
Now to grind the chamfers on the triangles and we're almost done!
The observant of you may notice that the chamfers aren't EXACTLY as I drew them in the first image. This is because I felt that due to the small size of the area that would need to be ground away, I ran a pretty high risk of it looking less "blocky" than I'd like, so I decided to modify the design just a bit.
RAGS TO RICHES
DRAGS TO BITCHES
AND THAT'S IT FOR THIS WEEK!
I hope you all enjoyed
***NOTE FOR NEXT WEEK***
I may have a project next Friday or I may not.. My mom is in the hospital for Diverticulitis issues at the moment and I may need to help out with stuff around the house more instead of just be a Blacksmithin' NEET.
Just wanted to say that maybe I'll have time or maybe I won't.
Sorry!
ANYWAY! Thank you all for your support, and as always, have a wonderful weekend FJ
