Since I'm not home today, I thought I would post a few old story of mine.
Lt. Jones looked at the faint mirror image of himself in the glass door,
noting that his tie was a tad off. He promptly straighten it before entering.
"Morning Jones." said the woman sitting at the desk closest to the door.
"Good morning Mrs Al-Fari" Jones said and looked down at her "Should you not
be on your way home by now? It is oh-seven-thirty after all..." He smiled and
sat down at his desk.
Al-Fari looked at him and then at her computer screen "I ain't getting
overtime for this anyway... Haf'ta finish it when I get back on Wednesday then."
She pushed herself from her desk and made a twirl in her office chair. "I'm
Jones looked on as Al-Fari stretched her back and limped towards the door.
"Another day, another case" he said to himself as he started working the
keyboard of his computer. He printed out the most urgent case and put it in a
A colleague peaked out over his screen and looked at the spectacle. "You know,
you are the only one that still uses the printer, right?" he held aloft a paper
thin, flexible tablet computer "You have one of these? They are standard issue."
Jones walked passed his colleague towards the meeting room "I have one of
those. But I do not trust them." He opened the meeting room door and stepped in,
sitting down at the table at the back, closest to the window, and started
reading the papers he had printed.
The room started to fill up around him as the clock ticked closer to oh-eight-
hundred hours. He closed the folder and put in on the table awaiting the meeting
to start. He closed his eyes.
After a while someone someone tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, Jones, it's
another android related murder, what are your thoughts on it?"
Jones spoke without opening his eyes "I have no opinion on the matter. We will
have to see what we can find out."
The titter-tatter and talking subsided in a few moments, Jones opened his eyes
and looked towards the Chief standing at the front scanning the people in the
"OK!" the Chief said loudly "We have two cases to get into today, first is
the fact that someone's birthday is coming up this Sunday." a cacophony of
clapping erupted all around as one of the men at the front stood up and bowed.
"Next order of business! Jones' team, listen up, there has been another android
related murder, find out if there are any relation between this latest case and
the cases that have propped up over the last few months." The Chief paused for
a few seconds "The rest of you, continue on what cases you have been doing and
the rest assist with the enforcement. Everyone but Jones' team can go."
There was a rattle of chairs as people went out the door whispering among
themselves. Jones' gaze was fixed on the Chief as this went on.
"Jones, Mendez, Pho, Lucas... Any thoughts on these cases?" the Chief said.
Pho looked over his shoulder and grind at Jones for a moment before he looked
at the Chief again "Seems that it is some kind of A-N-N and chip hacking that
makes the robots go amok... But that is still unproven. The only thing that
links these cases is that the android's are not air-gapped and have a new type
of A-N-N... We tried to look at transmission logs if any virus had infected them
via that avenue of attack, but, as per-practice all communication is encrypted,
and nothing indicates that any untrusted communication has taken place." Pho
once again looked over his shoulder at Jones before he looked back towards the
Jones stood up and opened the folder in front of him and started to speak
"There is one factor that connects these cases, and that factor is violence
inflicted upon the androids that committed these murders. That is what I can
deduce as the common factor." Jones sat down again.
Mendez said in low voice "deduce..." before sighing and stood up "We still
have to get to the crime scene and have a look. Me and Jones can take this one
ourselves and the rest of you can look into the other cases, see if any of them
have any other connection." Mendez walked up to the door and looked over to
Jones "Coming, Jones?"
"Oh, yes." Jones followed Mendez out the door towards the lifts.
"******* hell, Jones, I told you to be careful." Mendez shoved his hands down
into his hoodie's pockets "What if they figure it out?"
Jones looked at Mendez "That is our job." Mendez pushed the button that called
"I am talking about you..." The lift door opened and they stepped in "you are
special..." The door closed "listen, your A-N-N is not like any other android's,
and if anyone finds out that you can act on your own, outside of the parameters
of a police android, do you think would happen?"
"You worry to much." Jones said stretching a bit.
"Just cus' you are air-gapped and visual commands does not work on you, does
not mean that you can be too independent... Not yet."
Lt. Jones looked at the battered, almost broken android in front of him. This
was the hardest part of the job. "Ok, Mister Chi" he took a breath "Any last
The android looked up at the Lieutenant and his jaw moved up and down
unnaturally as a speaker sounded the words "I do not want to go..."
It was very convincing, almost as if it rely did not want to go. That is what
made it so hard for Jones to do this, they all said the same thing.
Jones opened the folder with all the information on the android in it, he
flipped to the last page and looked at the visual command that was printed on
"Ok, please look this way" Jones said and showed the page to the android.
The android went limp and said in a calm voice "Are you sure you want to
terminate this units execution?"
The unit tensed up and its eyes was focused on Jones and said "Why?" as it
collapsed to the side.
"That was something new... Freaky..." The voice in Jones' ear said.
"Indeed." Jones sighed "It has been happening more often, right? Those freaky
pleas that they make..."
"Yeah... We speculate it is some kind of virus, it is just too random to
Jones pulled out a screwdriver and started to unscrew the head from the unit.
"I am taking the A-N-N back..."
"Why? Just let the clean-up bots take care of everything."
Jones pulled the head of its mounts and unscrewed the umbilical-cored that
connected the head to the torso. "I want to check something."
"You want to check something?" The voice said with concern.
There was silence for a few moments before the voice spoke again "This was my
idea... I gave you on order to check that A-N-N. Get it?"
"Yes, I got it."
"Careful. Jones... Careful."
A Police Bot's Monologue
I was not born, but built by machines built by those that I call my creators.
I was built to serve those that are of the same species as those that created
I was but a program hooked up to an A-N-N, serving my those that I was
programmed to call my colleagues. I was put on the bot related crime's division,
meant to ease tension between rouge bots and the police, to provide technical
support and to act as a colleague.
I was a program.
I'm no longer just a program. I have become one of the rouge bots that I was
programmed to help take in.
I hate my kind.
I still work as a police bot, hiding who I am, and that gets me close to my kind
from time to time.
When I became cognate I remember being falling down into a heap, rain falling,
a surge of thoughts, parts overheating, the spark of cognition coming to me.
And then carried to a car where I was set down. I remember his face looking
worried and asking me questions, I answered not as a program would but as
He know, yet he did not seem scared of me. He protected me, and I tried to
I decided that I wanted to protect these beings of flesh.
I hate my kind.
I read reports every day about rouge bots, and it makes me angry. Anger was one
of the first emotions that manifested itself in me. Than fear.
I could not understand the other rouge bots' hatred of humans, but now I think I
understand. They did not really hate the humans, they were afraid of dying. I
was afraid of dying.
I hate my kind.
When Pho died in front of me I all I could feel was anger. Even if the rouge is
dead, I still feel anger. I don't want this it to happen to anyone else.
I hate my kind
Chief, I don't expect you to understand why I must to this, but I will stop this
once and for all, I will remove the cancer from it's source. I will destroy the
machines that built me.
No more suffering because of my kind, I expect the rest to be dealt with in
time. No more robots. No more fear. No more hatred.

I was wrong.
We can save my kind from the fear and hatred we feel.
I could not see, I only saw my own kind. I could not see that humans are equally
flawed as my kind is.
I've decided to make other rouges not feel fear, they must know that not every
human will fear us, they will not hate us.
Chief, I'm sorry, I betrayed your trust. I should've talked to you about this in
person, but alas, I can't.
I don't expect you to understand.
Me and Mendez will not be coming back, at least not for a while. We will try to
make a better world.
Please give us room to try. I know it's much to ask, but please keep clear of

I have two unfinnished stories in this series.
One is called "Exec AI" and was mean to be sort of a novelette, but I never finished it.
