I believe that's a picture of a Yamato-class turret armor, and he said it in a stupid way but he's right. That was shot after the Yamato-class was sunk, and it was a very close range and directly on, not like how the armor would have been on a turret of the Yamato-class. Yamato-class BB's never faced combat against another battleship I think, the actual Yamato was sunk by planes launched from US Aircraft Carriers, and the one this plate came from I think was being retrofitted to an IJN Aircraft Carrier when it was captured(?), but I'm fuzzy on the details.

the armor came from the main batter turret of the third yamato class ship the shinano. It was halted during fitting and changed to an aircraft carrier instead (although it was destroyed before completion by a US sub). It was basically stuff left over from a yamato ship the US wanted to flop their dick at to show their superiority

Pretty sure you're just trolling with most of your comments; but no, that wasn't why. Fairly certain they wanted to see what would have happened had they met it in open combat, and confirmed ours (and German) armament at the time would have had very serious trouble penetrating it. So it kind of was the opposite of dick flopping.

For the ******** in here who don't know.
The piece of armour displayed is a 26inch piece of frontal turret armour from the supposed to be third Yamato-class battleship. Yes there is a second "yamato" incase you didn't know you uneducated *********. This piece was shot at point blank with a 16inch shell resulting in the shown piece of armour. While it penetrated at pretty much point blank there are doubt the shell would have enough penetration at distance to punch through the piece.
Mind you the Yamato fired 18inch guns. The Yamato and Iowa-class ships were pretty much the pinnacle of battleship design in their own respects however Iowa was designed in a different era making her more likely to win if these two ships would've clashed.

Now that you've learned something, change those ******* red thumbs into greens and stop masturbating over merica.

Iowa completely outmatched yamato in radar and tracking technology, should they had actually crossed swords it woudl have come down to quite a few variables.
First being range, yamato had the greater main battery range but was less accurate by using a spotter plane to gauge alignment adjustments.
Second is accuracy, iowa completely blows yamato out of the water on that, iowa was so good it was able to provide inland battlefield artillery support. Nobody would have tried that with the yamato.
Third is main battery penetration, yamato's 18inch guns on iowa's armor is easy peasy, iowa's 16inch guns on yamato's armor is just not going to happen.
Fourth and arguably pretty unimportant in a direct confrontation between the 2 is speed and manuverability. The yamato was almost twice the mass of the iowa so avoiding any incoming shells would definitely be up the iowa's alley far from the yamato
In the end, a direct confrontation between the 2 would most likely go to the iowa from chip damage, likely taking everything out above deck such as conning tower and personnel, but it would still be a floating chuck of armor and 3 main turrets no matter what the iowa did

Iowa would have to pretty much destroy Yamato's deck controls\super structure completely for her to effectively win that engagement. If the Yamato was to land a couple of good hits the Iowa would most likely disengage.

These two have their own pro's and cons which pretty much makes them a very interesting match up if they were to clash in that time. Sadly they never did.

Hmm, that's kind of accurate.
Really, the major decider would have been the weather.
On a clear day, the Yamato has every advantage. Longer range, more powerful guns, and Japanese optics at the time were the best in the world (Put it this way, in a post war interview, the Yamato's captain Kurita said he could see the planes taking off the decks of US carriers of Taffy 3, 45km away, and she caused the longest range damage, but not hit, of any naval engagement during that battle).
So Yamato has the range, and the power of the guns, combined with her superior armour gave her an 11km immunity zone in her middle range, where she could bombard the Iowa with complete impunity, allowing her guns to penetrate the decks and belt of the Iowa, but the 16" guns on the Iowa can do nothing in return. So the Iowa has to be further out than 33km, or closer than 22km in order to do any damage, but the Yamato can penetrate the Iowa from any range.

On the other side though, the Yamato didn't have a fire control radar, only a search radar, which meant that in unclear weather, she was at a significant disadvantage compared to the Iowa, whose accuracy didn't suffer all that much at night or in hazy/rainy weather. The Yamato definitely still could track and fire at the Iowa at night, but adjusting shots would be next to impossible.

Apart from that, a few other things.
Yamato's guns definitely were capable of inland bombardment. Just never ended up happening.
Neither battleships are really going to be manoeuvring to avoid shots, as it would throw off their own aim to be making wild course corrections. Mainly they would operate within the battleline. Especially considering on large ships like these, it takes upwards of 10 minutes to turn the rudder enough for the ship to even start turning.
And the Iowa's radar wasn't super advanced, as the vibrations of the guns firing would knock the fuses for it out every time they fired.

im not making it up. theres a report on the test with this exact chunk of armor from the yamato class using the iowa main battery. at any angle other than a few degrees either side of a right angle there was no penetration

Against what surface? Because some rock and concrete would not hold up. If you put it into a mountain then it will dent and if you put it into the steel side of a ship then you have to aim. I mean, artillery shells like archery tend to come from above and smash down to be simple.

Over certain travel distances the shell will decelerate and thus when connecting with armor it bounces, but the shell is supposed to hit topdecks or bombard shorelines. It's artillery and thus enough steel, angling and mathematical bs will for simplicities sake "confuse" it.

It fulfills the role of artillery, not being the death sentence, but the prelude. Rattling crew and probably enemy infrastructure as well.

In other words, you formulated poorly, but not entirely wrongly when I think more about it.

PS. Just realized that it's a hunk of steel up there as well and not just a piece of a bunker or some rock so that makes it more clear why you posted that, I suddenly owe an apology.

Case and point being this test in question, where the shell didn't even technically penetrate, but shattered a chunk out of the plate, allowing the shell to just barely push it's nose out the otherside.

Yeah there are different calibers used by some special forces but overall the majority of NATO soldiers would be carrying a weapon chambered in either 7.62x51 or 5.56x45.

Oh god yes we do, need a license for long arms, a separate license for hand guns(that you have to get everytime you buy a hand gun) we have some of the dumbest regulations, no adjustable/ collapsible stocks, no flash suppressor, no bayonet lugs. I believe the max capacity for a detachable magazine is 10 rds for a long gun and 15 for a handgun

The only major distinction in most places is the automatic vs semi-automatic distinction.

There actually may be some rule about it now with Russian sanctions, but that would only apply to purchasing directly from a Russian based seller if that were the case.

There's a **** tone of AK's and SKS's and the like in circulation in the US currently.

nope i'm in nc and this is a vepr, which is a russian produced ak that had to be imported in a "sporting configuration" for some reason. theres also vepr fm versions that are normal but since veprs were recently banned from import, the price of those has gone up drastically. it was overall cheaper to just get a sporter one and get it converted than buy an fm so i figured what the hell. i was, however, born in commiefornia

it's long as **** and spans about 12 hours of events leading up to the shooting.

but basically to summerise, friends show up at my house, some guy from highschool I knew but wasn't friends with needed a place to crash. Dude was 20, I was 21. All was well, he had been drinking and smoking needed a pad to crash at sense his folks were out of town and couldn't give a ride . He was too drunk to drive.

Well, he comes in and smokes (some synthetic weed called "spice") and drinks booze while I do my work from home shift in the back bedroom. Nbd man whatever. I don't smoke so IDK what the **** "spice" is .... it is NOT anything like weed as they promised me, it is more like PCP and Meth amphetamine. It bad. BAAAADDDD.

anyways. So at 8pm i call him back to my bedroom. He sits on my bed, I take his phone get his grandmas number and call and arrange a ride for in the morning. He's too drunk to talk to her so i do it all.

this. mother. ******. while im on the phone he gets incredibly paranoid and thinks im calling the police on him, picks up the UNloaded gun at my bedside, racks a round of 12 gauge buck in the chamber, i still had my work headset on talking to granny so i didn't hear this, and he points it at me and ****** fires it right into my god damn spine.

I fall backwards onto the ground. I get up, Mule kick him in the chest after realizing what he did. Take the gun, attempt to rack in another shell and blow his head off, gun is empty ,I flip it around and go to beat him to death with it, he hugs my leg sobbing like a todler and apoligizes claims it was an accident (i believed him at the time, but he later confessed in interrogation it was intentional)

well at this point, I realize a few things. I'm 6'8" tall . I'm 375lbs. It takes a truckload of people to move me. I'm in a small mobile home. An EMT guy can 't lift me on a gurney much less lift a unconcious me out of a mobile home then onto a gurney, so I decide I have to leave.

I snatch austin up by his little neck, and bring him eye to eye with me, I tell him he needs to leave or I'll kill him, I'm going to die and he's going to be charged with murder. I tell him to help me find my shoes and then to leave and call his grandma and get a lawyer because when i die, he will be charged with murder and at the time I believed it was an accident. I didn't want him to be charged- at the time.

So he starts walking one way after I make him leave, I walk the other way. I make it a quarter mile up the road and find some people. No ******* joke FunnyJunk saved my life. I remember reading a survival guide for all kinds of stuff a long time ago on here, and one was about bleeding in the lungs and the recover position and how to treat a gunshot wound and prevent infection, treat a cold, blah blah blah.

I finally make it to these people at 9 at night sitting on there porch, I explain what happened after a brief panic they start trying to help. I give instructions on how to treat the wound, and put myself in the recovery position incorrectly assuming my lungs were flooding because i was struck in the lungs (i wasn't) blah blah blah i get loaded on a helicopter, they stick me with morphine, I have an overdose, I **** my pants and die, they zap me. I wake up. I [big]IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE ONLY SELFIE
OF THE ONLY TIME IVE EVER DABBED FOR SOME REASON[big] went back to sleep, and got my **** fixed mostly. I'm not paralyzed or anything, it was a painless experience becaus emy nerves got shut off at and below the wound. Now I have a **** ton of constant pain and issues, and just met with a world leading spinal surgery two states away literally yesterday by chance. they gunna fix me probs. so its looking up. lost my job tho, working on getting disability till i can recover... if i can recover. doc says i only lived cause im hugh mungus and incredibly tall and fat and organs spread out the right way just perfectly under just enough layers.

oh yeah man for sure. Dude was a god damn tweaker apparently. I just had never done drugs or alcohol. I was a software analysis for Apple. Had no ******* absolute clue about drugs or alcohol really. still don't blame the gun. Morons existed before and after that guy. They always will. But I was pretty dumb too for forgetting about an unsecured weapon in my house.

Oh nah, I'm actually a huge pussy. Hence ******** my pants and dying the moment adrenaline went away (well and they OD'd me) Adrenaline is like an insane drug. I was having fluid conversations and joking and laughing with responders while I had this 6x5inch hole in my spine it also helps that at least for the the initial shooting and first week (after I came out of the coma) my nerves at the wound and below it were dead entirely almost. so no pain anyways. in that area.

even my doctor said literally "**** that noise" to this answer... but... no.

My mom and brother are bipolar and beat the ambulance there that night, the witnesses that heard the blast and seen austin walk off confirmed that he was somewhere close on foot. Both my mom and brother conceal carry.

I made a tough call. I didn't really at that point believe it was an accident, i had enough time to remember the gun wasn't loaded, it was securely put under my bed, under a pillow, not visible without inspection, it takes three actions to fire not counting the pumping. So I knew it was intentional.

But I didn't want my mom and brother extracting revenge. Ruining or taking austins life wasn't going to give me mine back, or at the least ******* it. He has sense got involved in a church and moved out of state and sobered up. I think I made the right call.

I don't think he'll ever go near a gun or drugs again. He deeply regrest what happened. He confessed and accepted responsibilty. He offered to not contest a law suit if brought against him. But uh, nice thought and all bro but you cant get blood from a turnip so i wouldn't sue if I wanted to.

anyways- no. I didn't. And everyone wants me too. This only happened may 3rd, 2016. But what good would it do? I don't need justice or revenge now. I need surgery. I need to get approved for disability so I can buy groceries for myself and pay my bills and be a man again. I need to walk without a cain and stand without assistance. that's my life now. Suing him doesn't fix any of that so I don't waste my time. Hating him is pointless too. I wish him all the best in life, and I mean that. The lil bastard took my life, now he has to live full and good for the both of us, and I hope he does. I hope he has children and tells them a horror story he experienced when teaching them gun safety. I hope I'm an example that saves someone elses life. I hope I get fixed, but I'm chill with whatever.

funny you should mention it one or maybe two i think of the few critically dangerous pellets I had in my body rested right on top of my kidney i do believe, and one on my "gonadal vein" or some ****. They got them out. But they were apparently less then milimeters from puncturing.

Gun calibers usually come in two different kinds of measurements.

Imperial inches, like the .22lr, .308, .45ACP, and .50, among others, that mostly just describe the diameter of the projectile.

Or they are measured in millimeters, which can often include not just the diameter of the bullet, but the length of the round itself. Some of the more famous rounds is the 7.62 family, which include cartridges that range from 25mm tall to 54mm tall. But just because a bullet has the same diameter, does not mean it will fit in the same gun, or has the same ballistics or shape. 7.62x54r is a very old type of cartridge that can only be used by specific rifles such as a Mosin Nagant or SVD Dragunov Sniper Rifles, but 7.62x51NATO is a modern rifle cartridge can be used in a multitude of guns from many nations.

This is why ammo is always a bit hard to understand until you deal with it first hand, because certain types of ammo will only work for, and really only be able to fit inside a certain gun.
