Okay, bait aside, I've seen far too many proponents of socialized medicine make the argument that it's necessary to keep people from being driven to measures like these in the events of medical catastrophes, and making references to Breaking Bad ("that would never happen with single payer," etc.).
Does not the fact that this stuff happens anyway remove at least some credibility from that argument?

Really makes you think... why would they send some to America to be treated for a life threatening condition and go massively into debt? Its almost like America has something britbongs and socialists dont. quality Healthcare that might actually accomplish something. 1 part quality 1 part salesmanship. I'm not going to look into this case in detail, but in general people go to America because they need a treatment that hasn't been apporved by the NHS, either because a massive bureaucracy hasn't gotten around to it yet or it doesn't do much but glorified palliative care at a high price, there's been some high profile cases of "we need this American wonder cancer cure drug" that turns out to just lessen the symptoms for half a year or something rather than help treat cancer along with cases where they had to go to America because they were the only ones who could help.

Also the socialised healthcare being bad is a load of ****, we have it here and I can tell you its ******* good, certainly better than the NHS in England, and do you want to know why the NHS is ****? They do, but more specialized treatments are severely plagued with long wait times, which is why some people from countries with universal healthcare opt to go to America for treatment. You pay out the ass for it, in exchange for not waiting around to die.

Basically. The state cannot do anything more for the ill child. The parents send their child to Texas for over 250 000 dollars, to attempt an experimental treatment. The treatment fails, then the second child dies following a routine surgery.

The issue with single payer health care, is how ruthless the state is in collecting the money. The couple saw no tax cuts for attempting to get health care elsewhere, as opposed to using the British system which was incapable of helping the child anyway.
