SO i decided that i wanted to make a cool knife, so i got a thick piece of mild steel and i had a piece of trash metal welded onto it as a handle. overall i think it looked hella cool.
This was the result. I drilled some holes for the handle off-camera. also i got some brass to make brass pins, so thats always nice.
I was gonna harden the metal, but i broke it instead because i am retarded.
im going to give a summary of what happened, and what YOU should avoid if you try to make your own thing.
When i put the metal into the furnace, the edge melted off. so from now on i wont sharpen it all the way when i put it into the furnace. also, i think i wll use some kind of propane furnace to heat it up for the final quench, because i feel like slag gets built up on the blade, and that coal is too unpredictable. when i finally felt like it was a high enough temperature, i water quenched it, and i realized that the ******* thing was bent from the heating, so i tried to hammer it flat, but because it was hardened it broke. like i said, im a retard.
TLDR: use a propane furnace, dont get impatient or angry, and dont hammer on the thing when it has been hardened because its fragile.
so now i am going to make it into a ****** unfunny meme.
what should i do with the remaining metal? i think i can still make a very smol knife from the bottom part of the blade, and the other part i can also make into a smol knife. or maybe i'll make it into one of those halloween things that you put on your head and it looks like youve been stabbed.
End My Life
this doesnt mean im giving up. i'll try to make a similar knife later.
