Inside the Saudi Kingdom - Documentary

The Saudi Royal Family has been reluctant to allow Western media inside the Kingdom. But since 9/11 and with a new King on the throne things have changed. It has granted unique access to film a senior member of the family. Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.

Saudi Arabia isn't what it is built up to be in the media.
I wake up, play a couple of lol games, go to eat in DQ, have a cup of coffee from starbucks then go home and watch game of thrones on my TV.
1) we do not buy guns on the streets, they are highly illegal just like any normal country.
2) we have most, if not all, the major modern needs (my internet connection is 40 down 20 up, my friend's is 200 down 50 up)
3) yes, you can not mix with women, at all. even inside your family (non-immediate family). girls become women when they hit puberty, then they can marry and have to wear "Abayas" to cover themselves us(keyword 'Can' the average marriage age here is +21) and for men you can only see your mother, your mother/father's sisters, your sisters, your grandmothers and you father's wive(s), all other women are forbidden.
4)alcohol, loud music, all drugs and wearing shorts is prohibited by the "hay'aa" or religion police. normal police forces will almost always ignore you(-drugs,ofc)

Because you never hear about people with guns in Saudi arabia (apart from every single ******* day it's been a country.)

You have to admit though....3 and 4 are pretty backwards ****** up laws that have no place in modern society. sorry if that offends but that's how I feel.

So i guess what I'm saying is this, we aren't a random African country with killing in the streets and rape is like saying hello, we are a normal, pretty much completely modernized society that only has one key difference; we follow the sharia law.

this is coming for a 20 year old Saudi Arabian from a mid-upper class family. also no, i do not think highly of our government but i think they are doing an okay job considering all the bad stuff they have to face.

no no, you can still wear shorts, but it is a reason to get talked to, you won't go into jail for wearing them but it is highly, highly frowned upon, just like having long hair.
the reason they are "forbidden" is because they are a sin, in the form of "trying to look like/be like women and/or foreigners" which are both sins in islam, impersonating the other sex or other religions is a kinda large sin in islam, but normal police won't say a thing about it really, but the religion police (hay'aa) are these guys who have one single mindset when it comes to men ages 15-50, that they are out only to try and talk to women and flirt with them and that they only leave their houses to try and get laid or at least get a girl's number.

oh and one more thing, all theme parks are female only, and up to last years, all malls were female/family only.
and we don't have cinemas at all, or live concerts, or plays. because of mixing.

Tons of people in Turkey wear shorts, and some even wear shorts to the friday prayers. No one cares. Is it a different sect of Islam over there?

I myself have really long hair as a male (down to my shoulders, and a bit more) and my favorite clothes is shorts and a t-shirt, every time i go outside it's a nightmare to anyone who doesn't know how to get himself out of trouble. but i manage.

How do you find a potential partner for marriage if you aren't allowed to "Mix" with women? Also, what do they mean by "mixing" like, only publicly or just never allowed to be near women that aren't in your immediate family.

User avatar #21 to #11 - randumnaem (06/30/2013) [-]
Males arent allowed to be near females, but females can see females no problem, so your mother, sister, cousins and aunts and so on can see other women in public occasions like marriages and dinners. and they in turn will know if a girl is nice and good looking and so on.
there's a large amount of people that marry cousins, because they know that they are good people and they have lived with them/seen them for a somewhat large percentage of time.

Holy **** . The population is estimated to double in 2020, so let's build six new, full-sized cities.
