This is a fine piece of well-articulated argumentation. It's a wonderful change of pace from the usual drivel complaining about "cancer" and "faggotry," I thoroughly enjoyed it.

agree. It's almost cancer to say "cancer"

I should show this to my friends who keep improperly using memes and describing 4chan as "silly."
#65 - anon (03/01/2013) [-]
I remember, about 6 months ago, getting into a discussion with my friend about memes.

He couldn't understand the concept of "not beating a dead horse." I told him that, on 4chan, when they create a new "meme", they very quickly stop using it. They don't want to, as I said, beat it into the ground.

He couldn't grasp this concept. He kept saying, "If you create a new joke, why not use it?"

One part of this discussion was rage comics. I told him that 4chan abandon them years ago, again- which he couldn't understand why. Then, I noticed something. About 6 months ago when this conversation was taking place, rage comics were fairly popular on FunnyJunk. Yet, within the last 2 months ago or so, they've become despised. Nobody is using them anymore, they get thumbed down.

People caught on. It confirmed my hypothesis. 4chan is just way ahead of everybody else.

Though I agree with his statements I did like all the references in Borderlands 2, mainly because, at least for me, it was a reference hunt, I loved finding these things. I didn't much care for what it was just some reference so I in my mind could go "Ha found another one"

(Anonymous because yadda yadda.)

Too long? I respectfully think FJ is one of the most Cancerous sites on the internet.

I feel that Funnyjunk needs to learn from this. And I need to be mean here because I feel that I don't I won't be able to get my point across.

Funnyjunk has to be one of the most cancerous internet sites ever, worse than Facebook or 9gag.
Because unlike facebook, it's usually just something shared with friends, or at least kept within it's perimeters (Even if they don't truly understand it.)
And unlike 9gag, they pick a meme, use it for maybe a week, then move onto the next thing, and at least their content is usually something new every day, right?
(part 1)
#36 to #35 - anon (03/01/2013) [-]

What funnyjunk does is we latch onto the memes and drain them for their worth which lasts weeks or even months. The worst part is if anybody tries to speak their word, they're usually thumbed down until they're banned, leaving others scared to speak their say, even turning them into more mindless sheep that follow everybody else. Not to mention how uncreative our jokes are. If I had a nickel for every Hitler, woman, or dick joke I heard on this site I'd be rich. Sometimes it puts me into such a bitter mood, that I don't even get on for a week because of it..

So please funnyjunk, as a friend I am asking you to look at yourself deeply. And you may be saying, "Yeah, I'm not one of those people." But chances are, you probably are. We all are.

Anon out.

Most other sites work like this to and we actually respect those who put up good points regarding being tired of one thing.

Yep. It's lost that inside jokeness. A year and a half ago, i was surprised to find someone on rs who understood the references. Soon after that, my whole class slowly started to use them. I feel like a hipster
User avatar #102 - Tazdingo (03/01/2013) [-]
I believe this applies to smileys like "xD" as well. Overused, unfunny and retarded. Did you really laugh so hard at something that you closed your eyes from tears and laughed out loud? Even then xD is a retarded ******* smiley. It's usage would be equivalent to saying "OMG SO FUNNEH :DDDD". Next time you want to write xD, try to see if that works instead. If it sounds retarded to you then you probably shouldn't use xD at all.

Smileys are supposed to be used to express your feelings when they cannot be read from the message, or when the message could be misinterpreted, not to be a means for communication as of themselves. For example: "Sure, you can come over '-.-" is not the same as "Sure, you can come over :)", similarly "ahahahahahha :D" is not the same as "ahahahahahha >=D". Here the use of smileys is appropriate, as simply "ahahahahahha" could be interpreted both as someone laughing with you or someone laughing at you.

So, should we stop liking memes that become popular?
This guy is the ultimate hipster. Too cool to like popular memes, makes a video just to show how little he actually cares.
User avatar #30 - yellowcardraiden (03/01/2013) [-]
I agree with everything, minus the Borderlands 2 one, that game was suppose to be a big fun joke, it almost never took itself serious and was like just a fun adventure
