As a Brit I'll share my 2 pence.

There is a difference between patriotism and racism, but there are also those who feel being British, is being white. Such as the EDL/BNP. So many people mix these up, including the whites of our country. Government crumbles at political correctness and tries to do anything not to offend our minorities, and then the people trying to defend these attributes are usually trampy racists. Quite the dilemma. The only places the St. George flag is hung is in rough, racially dominant housing estates and pubs, which gives it negative connotations. So it has become a touchy subject. But believe me, we're not losing our country, patriotism is shown when needed. When our boys are at war, or when we're playing Brazil in the World Cup. Patriotism isn't about shouting your country's name at any given opportunity, which is what makes people confuse it with racism.

Honestly I'm quite fed up of the patriotism in Britain... We're too busy trying to not be "British" but rather be Scottish, Welsh, Irish or English. We're stronger as a collective but we'd rather sit and bitch between ourselves because historically there's always been a pretty large division.

Yeah exactly, I refer to myself more as British than English.

ill start calling myself british when the scots and welsh do. and ill stop saying ****** when ******* stop saying ****** to oneanother. ill stop being a patriot the day other nations stop.

its gonna be a loooooong wait, unfortunately.
instinct, and fear, drive people to judge, hate, and discriminate. try to get that out of human nature. no matter how hard you try, you cant change simplistic human behavour with reason, or there wouldnt be any smokers, rapists or "nazis". we are animals at heart, and animals protect their territory, and spurn what does not belong there. this is what happens whe a species evolves too quickly.

Interesting words, although I do find them a bit radical. You seem to want to cleanse human nature, and other people. With me, I just want to be how I want everyone else to be. I will act how I believe is right, simple as really. Racism will never go, I'm not a racist but I can say racist things. I dunno, strange topic.

true true. ive just got no hope that human nature can be cleansed...
if there was a "kill every human in the world" button, i would be the first to jump up and down on it. humans are self-destructive, and soil their own environment, and thats against nature.
im always ashamed as to what aliens might think of us if they see what stupidity and evil we propagate as a species. we poisen ourselves willingly, and let our children starve. we believe that "wealth" is measured in little pieces of metal (or paper) and not in emotional maturity. our lives are short, and we waste them trying to collect things we dont need. i believe every person has the feeling "somethiing is missing. something is not right with the world." -its natures' inner voice telling us that we are f***cking up, all day, every day.

I understand what you mean, but current economics and governing factors are what stopping us from murdering each other and living in slums. It may not be perfect, but it's stable to say the least. We have a lot to learn, but also a lot of time to learn it. We've come very far in the past 2-3000 years, give us some credit ;)

I used to always refer to myself as British but seeing as being called English is taboo and the English people are getting screwed over I feel it is important to call on self English. Its worth mentioning that I am not a member or a sympathizer with the EDL/BNP the EDL had a chance to be something great but ended up turning into a football hooligan club with no direction other than destruction. I am a avid supporter of UKIP however. Mostly because I feel that supplanting the Tory party is the best thing that can happen to Britain. The Tories stir up too much tirbal hatred and with them gone the United Kingdom can be unified. The North needs a form of right wing politics but refuse to let the Tories in the door. So UKIP must step up.

Hmmm, I understand where you're coming from. Personally I'm torn, I like referring to myself as British as I like our ties with Scotland etc, but I also like it when we play each other at football/rugby. I'm not too knowledgeable about UKIP, so I can't say. Although I would like Labour in power, I would love to see what Ed Miliband could do for us considering he has Marxist roots. The EDL could have had some good attributes for the country, but the leader himself was a dickhead so that was gonna be a disaster at any given time. I do believe that we need to stand up for some things, and it's not fair that the only people doing it are the racist hooligans so it gives it no real ground to stand on. I work with a lot of Asians, and some of them can be alright and have a good chat with. But I've noticed a lot of the muslims are very rude, and ignorant. Now I don't know if this is culture-based, or assuming I'm prejudice, but I don't think it's very fair that manners have become a rarity in certain areas.

I agree we are stronger as a collective which is why it is important to promote equality between nations. While England does not have its own parliament the English people are in equal to the Scottish and such things occur that allow the English to be taken advantage of. Student fees are an example. The Tories could not raise student fees in Scotland and Wales as their parliament/asembelly protected them. In England no one protected the English interests which is why the English now need to pay for the education of Scottish and Welsh people. If we create equality between the nations in the union then the chance of that union breaking up is smaller.
