Potassium Chlorate and Candy Reaction

When potassium chlorate is heated to melting point, any item added to it will cause a rapid disintegration in the form of an explosion (as seen in the video above).

Actually it is just sugar containing objects. The potassium chlorate rapidly oxidizes the sugar in the gummy bear and the expanding gas makes the screaming noise.
