How Much Does The Internet Weigh?

Just a video I found very interesting made by one of my favorite channels on YouTube, VSauce.
They do a lot of interesting videos, and if you're interested in random facts and information, check out their channel.

as a physics student, i have to say... IT'S MASS, NOT WEIGHT!

I know, I study physics too (though only as AS currently, is it awesome at higher levels?), and it does gripe me a tiny bit when people say an object weighs something in kilograms, but that unit has become common and is just said and used, like the word plastic, which used to be an adjective describing the behaviour of a material, now used as a noun for a polymer.

it does get awesome yeah, i did it for AS and A2, and have got a physics module for my course at uni. i know, i get really annoyed when people get that wrong man

I was more intrigued that a guy writ a book with over 50,000 words without using the ******* letter "e".... wut?
User avatar #23 to #14 - rainbowtacos ONLINE (06/02/2012) [-]
Probably an experiment just to see if it's possible. Also "E" was probably just too mainstream.

What a hipstr.

It was basically a **** you to the dictionary, because E is the most commonly used letter. (Just look at how many e's are in this message)

5 million terabytes? That's it? I don't think so... The internet has been around for years, and with transfer programs starting at napster and going to Utorrent, there's way more than that... now you throw in Youtube, which is owned by Google, and you surpass any sizable amount of data, simply 'cause its damn near endless... and with ppl posting each day? ...yeah, the size of the internet cannot be calculated, unless you're darth batman

You do realize how big a Terabyte is? That's 1024 Gigabytes. Most videos on youtube dont go past Megabytes. Granted there's a ******* of data out there, but 5 million Terabytes is a pretty good estimate.

How the **** did he not use "E"
It's like in every single ******* word.
#15 to #13 - renderme (06/02/2012) [-]
you just used 8 words not containing "E".
User avatar #17 to #15 - mrgoodbunny (06/02/2012) [-]
***** i didn't literally mean every single word.
Try to write a ******* book without using "E"
**** , try to write a paragraph without using "E"
#18 to #17 - renderme (06/02/2012) [-]
i realized you didnt meant every word. i was just pointing out that you wrote a 15 word sentence and used 8 words not containing "E" meaning while very difficult, an entire book would be possible. you just need time.

dont you need an anti-matter or nuclear reaction to create a conversion from energy to mass?

as, you can theoreticly weigh the internett but without any of the meantioned reactions electricity (energy) wont simply just turn into mass (weight)
User avatar #29 to #25 - Mahazama (06/03/2012) [-]
Aside from Fiber-optics, all data transfer is by electron, which has mass :l

very interesting. But who would ask how much the internet weighs? Who was high enough to ask such a question?
User avatar #38 - heraske (06/03/2012) [-]
So, if data has a mass... Does that mean they will be able to spawn cars?
