I haven't played D&D, but I still understand this. Read some forgotten realms, look up the rules. Get into it, its a fun game to play with friends. Especially when these sort of ridiculous situations take place.

Thought he was gay.

Only played as a male character, and he wouldn't stop hitting on me. Think I asked him what the deal was, and he wasn't preoccupied with ladies or something. Never got too deep into DA2, since the RPG elements were severily reduced.
User avatar #119 to #60 - hudis ONLINE (11/17/2013) [-]
If I recall correctly, the thing with Anders is that if you play a male, he will act gay as **** and hit on you constantly, never expressing any inclination towards interest in women. If you play a female it's the opposite; he will behave much more masculinely, still hit on you and never show any interest in men. It's a bit tasteless, in my opinion, but I guess Bioware like to do that sometimes. I still love Bioware, though.
User avatar #62 to #60 - thecomkiller (11/17/2013) [-]
ya, basically every romanceable character (Anders, Merrill, Fenris, and sexy pirate bitch) will try to initiate a romantic relationship with Hawke no matter what gender you are.

two good people fighting over ideals doesnt make them any less good, since they both have good reasons to do it
User avatar #147 to #146 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
it does when they both resort to evil to do so
User avatar #148 to #147 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
evil is debatable, its basically a really advanced way of selfdefence, the only way to protect themselves and their kindred is to take out the enemy, who is evil in their eyes
User avatar #149 to #148 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
I think you'd find that a very hard sell
User avatar #150 to #149 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]

commit mass murder, terrorism, and start a war... yeah he's good
User avatar #123 to #121 - admiralen (11/18/2013) [-]
he did it for a good cause though, the chantry had oppressed and slaughtered mages for hundreds of years, thats why hes chaotic good
User avatar #125 to #123 - thecomkiller (11/18/2013) [-]
no, the whole point of that game was there wasn't a good or evil character, they were all neutral, well... maybe not Aveline. Chaotic Good is benevolent (read: does not murder innocent priests) but saying screw you to the society they are in, not "I'ma do bad things for a good cause". Doing evil things for a good cause is the defining point of most neutral characters.
User avatar #126 to #125 - admiralen (11/18/2013) [-]
a chaotic neutral truly only cares about himself, anders was ready to die for his fellow mages, you may call them priests, but in the da universe they might as well be nazis
User avatar #127 to #126 - thecomkiller (11/18/2013) [-]
A: =1
B: **** the Templars. I'm not above slaughtering most of them on a good day, but that's mostly because at the moment they're after me, my sister, or my girlfriend. However, they have a point. mages are prone to causing mass havoc and blood-shed and most other groups would have slaughtered the lot of them centuries ago.
C: I wasn't talking about the Templars when I said priests. I was talking about the actual religious members, like the Reverend Mother, who make up 90% of the Chantry of which the Templars are just a branch of.
User avatar #128 to #127 - admiralen (11/18/2013) [-]
the priests and the reverend mother are just as guilty as the templars, and they hate mages just as much, its their religion that is doing all this after all.
i know that mages can go ******* at any moment and such, but it doesnt warrant locking them in a tower for the rest of their lives just because of something they were born with.
anders is also possessed by vengeance at the time after all.

A:=1?
User avatar #129 to #128 - thecomkiller (11/18/2013) [-]
Now, I can understand the Templar hate; they're often brutal and overzealous, but saying it's okay to kill people who have likely never even seen a mage just to prove a point is another thing entirely.
Killing people because of something they're born with? bad
Keeping them segregated because they can pose a legitimate threat to the majority of the population? Major grey area that was the point of the story.
and Anders isn't possessed by Vengeance anymore, he is Vengeance, and that is both not an excuse in the first place and the sum total of the Templar's side of things.

Godwin's law: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.
User avatar #130 to #129 - admiralen (11/18/2013) [-]
well, its just an example since theyre put into basicaly a work camp were you get lobotomized or killed for breaking the rules.
and anders doesnt really hate the templars themselves, he hates the system that subjugates mages.
i mean if they were treated more humane and were more prepared the amount who becomes abominations would be nearly zero, and the ones who did would be in the trial you have to face as a mage, which would have people ready to stop them if they became an abomination
User avatar #131 to #130 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
Yes, those reasons are why Anders and mages as a group aren't evil. However, the affinity for demon possession and blood magic coupled with Anders' way of pushing the conflict to a tipping point through large scale murder and causing even more bloodshed instead of diplomacy and talking make them not good.
Thus Neutrality
User avatar #132 to #131 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
whats good is just point of perspective, self sacrifice sure as hell isnt neutral.
and do you think he hasnt considered diplomacy? i mean hes spent most of his life with these templars and such.
User avatar #133 to #132 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
just because he's neutral doesn't mean every action he takes will be neutral.
He's not neutral because he does neutral actions, he is neutral because he has done bad things for good reasons and good things for bad reasons.
User avatar #134 to #133 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
except he always does things for a good reason, he becomes an unpaid healer in the town before he joins you, he destroys the chantry to save the mages, and before you say thats doing a bad thing for a good reason, paladins slay evildoers to protect others, pretty much the same thing, in his perspective the chantry are evil
User avatar #135 to #134 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
yes, in his perspective the Chantry is evil, and from the Chantry's perspective, he is evil. Nether are truly evil because they have good reasons for doing the things they do. Neither are good because the things they do are evil. I'm not talking about perspectives, I'm saying from an objective view they're both people trying to the the right thing and making things ****** for everyone in the process.
User avatar #136 to #135 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
thats cause the system is flawed, is anyone really lawful or chaotic evil? i mean, everyone are the hero of their own story.
i would still call anders chaotic good though, since he cares about others and is willing to sacrifice himself for them. a neutral would only care about themselves and let others die
User avatar #137 to #136 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
Darkspawn: chaotic evil
but yes, true good and true evil exist, they're simply ridiculously rare. When you take the time to look at the other side's side, you realize the good guys aren't so good and the bad guys aren't so bad. DA2 is made specifically to try and make you look that way.
User avatar #138 to #137 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
then there is no reason to focus on him being neutral either
User avatar #139 to #138 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
could you elaborate? because I'm a bit confused by that.
User avatar #144 to #139 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
143
i would say in anders case hes leaning more towards good since, his intent and purpose is to protect his kindred and stop oppression
User avatar #142 to #139 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
reply to 141
in the end that doesnt make you neutral though, someone who is neutral wouldnt commit neither an evil or a good act, they only act in the interest of self preservation, they are passive
User avatar #143 to #142 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
it doesn't make you good either
User avatar #140 to #139 - admiralen (11/19/2013) [-]
if theres no such thing as good or evil, then theres no such thing as neutral either, no one is colorless
User avatar #141 to #140 - thecomkiller (11/19/2013) [-]
there is such a thing as good and evil, just hardly anybody is truly good or truly evil
