That actually hit me for some reason. Imagine you're driving home, thinking to yourself "Hey, you know pizza would be the perfect treat for the Wife and son, i'll get some." Then you walk in the door, your wife's dead, and your son's dick is cut off.

The war on drugs is a failure
It's wasted ********* of money that could be used elsewhere, like education
if illegal drugs were taxed they'd bring in billions of dollars in revenue
I don't think the government should have a say in what I choose to put into my body
I think saying people can't consume stuff like shrooms or cannabis is on the same level as banning catfish from being eaten
Too many people are incarcerated for possessing drugs, many for personal use
Like the prohibition, laws banning drugs isn't going to stop people from using them, in fact it's going to increase drug use, social strife, crime, the black market, and cause more problems rather than solving anything.

And most of all
the more this era of misinformation and drug suppression continues
the more people are going to make severely dangerous synthetic brain rotting **** like bath salts and this crap

My body is ready.
#17 to #12 - anon (03/08/2014) [-]
Not really.
User avatar #18 to #17 - infinitereaper (03/08/2014) [-]
they are called "designer drugs" in order to escape the law people are taking to creating stuff like synthetic cannabis, etc. You'll see more cases like this as time goes by.

What about the people that are forced to live in slavery in order to produce those drugs?

You didn't really thought the dealers and kingpins do them, do you?

See, you're not the only one that would suffer from that. Countries like Peru, Chile, Colombia and Brazil have entire native tribes slaved because of narcs needing hands and land in order to produce said drugs.

But it should be legal, because its your body, your choice, right? What about them, then? Who will give them the choice of freedom?

But no, it wouldn't matter, right? Because in the end what matters is that a few kids can get high. Not the millions of life ruined, no.

Of course, you probably lived a sheltered life, else the thought would have made it into your mind.
User avatar #35 to #21 - icefried (03/09/2014) [-]
The **** ?
Legalisation would completely and utterly destroy those kinds of operations.
And there is actual proof of that in the form of the American prohibition of alcohol. Durring that time, for obvious reasons, organized crime skyrocketed.
With the taxation of any and all narcotics, the druglords would forever be out of business because:
1) The taxed prices would undercut the street prices
2) People wouldn't buy from dealers because why risk persecution when you can just get it legal? Organized crime would suffer massive lossess and drug slaves would cease to exist.
#24 to #21 - infinitereaper (03/08/2014) [-]
By legalizing at least some of the safer illegal drugs (shrooms, cannibus, lsd, etc.) you decrease the size of the black market. You allow people and companies to produce it, greed will jack of the price but with competition this should be negligible. By decreasing the size of the black market you actually bring about less slavery and stuff like that. Not to mention the benefits of taxation, and mandating age limits, etc.

It would be a good thing, not a bad thing like people seem to think, afterall, people aren't going to stop producing or using drugs, however, what governments CAN do is change the nature in which those drugs are produced and consumed.
#26 to #24 - dalokan (03/08/2014) [-]
Yeah, because narcs simply won't lower prices, and because they will free the people because laws.

To be quite honest, I don't expect someone that hasn't lived close to that to understand.

User avatar #30 to #26 - infinitereaper (03/08/2014) [-]
Legalizing drugs might actually reduce that, and public trust and guaranteed quality will be backed by new found legality of locally produced drugs. What you don't understand is that oppressors will oppress, regardless of what for, if it wasn't drugs it would be something else, this has nothing to do with this argument.
User avatar #123 to #21 - newforomador (03/09/2014) [-]
What the hell do people enslaved, getting the drugs, have to do with legalizing them? The only way I can think of that that would be negative for them is if they're killed off instead of freed. It's not like they're getting paid for it, so they're not losing money. So, it's either 1) Stay in a life of slavery where you have little chance of escape and you're life is hell or 2) Possibly be set free. And even then, it's probably not just those two. The slaves will still be there, because there'll still be other countries where the drugs are easier to get illegally.
User avatar #51 to #21 - christmouth (03/09/2014) [-]
The argument for legalization is that, when it becomes legal, it will take away the incentives for illegal and shady groups to produce these drugs, and give them to legitimate companies, which then will create new legal ways for it to be produced, and that would then create more jobs.

I think there will be a gradual transition with cannabis becoming regulated over the next few years like tobacco.
There are certain things that shouldn't be regulated regardless though in my opinion like heroin.
Some drugs do have medical uses like pharmaceutical grade methamphetamines (desoxyn) which are used in extreme cases of obesity and severe ADHD.
User avatar #33 to #32 - infinitereaper (03/08/2014) [-]
Yeah I agree with you on that, I advocate for a few drugs, namely the ones I've mentioned in this thread (LSD, Shrooms, Cannabis, etc.) but a few should never be legal, like the one you said (heroin). To be honest, I think Opium should also be legal, or at least in a gray area. I mean, its basically the mother of painkillers, many legal drugs are even derived from similar or the same compounds of it.

It's a tricky issue sure, but I do think it's being handled poorly, if not horribly, it just seems like the Federal Government thinks it's job is to control every aspect of our lives. Honestly with the emerging technology that you see these days, it's sort of scary.
User avatar #34 to #33 - holyfool (03/08/2014) [-]
I hear what you and many people are saying but it's going to be quite a while until the general populous can be convinced that hallucinogens should be legalized. While I'm personally not a fan of them it is my belief people should have the right to use them.

I heard many stories and I believe you when you say your experience was life changing.

User avatar #41 to #40 - holyfool (03/09/2014) [-]
This is a new age of safe downers, the days of black beauties and barbs are over.
Now some of the safest pharmaceutical drugs in the world are depressants.
The most dangerous depressant I've ever had was alcohol believe it or not because these new drugs are basically impossible to OD on. Don't get me wrong, there are still exceptions to this

Fix'd

The War of Drugs should be a cultural war - refuse to do them, speak out against them. Local Laws may also ban drugs.

But a Federally-mandated, -executed, and -funded :"War on Drugs" is not only illegal, but corrupt, and ineffective.

And it's not actually a War on Drugs - why to you think tons of returning Vets from Afghanistan keep noting that all they did there was protest and support Poppy Farms?

User avatar #53 to #12 - tehfalconguy (03/09/2014) [-]
The point is there are some drugs that make people ******* nuts and dangerous. Then there are others that aren't too harmful but people driving while high on them could be really bad. Of course there are other things like alcohol and fast food that are **** for you but these things are much harder to control nowadays so we just keep the restriction on what we can.
User avatar #61 to #53 - infinitereaper (03/09/2014) [-]
