My ps3 died this morning after 5 years of loyal service. Should I:

a) Get it repaired
b) Get a new one (meaning I'll have to transfer my HDD and crap)
c) Just leave it alone

I've had my original Xbox and Xbox 360 since both of them came out and never had any problems with them.... Yet my Ps3 broke after a half of a year...

Same with me, Xbox: 4 years, PS3: around 1. not trying to start a fanboy war or anything, just stating what happened with me.

I'm just going to assume we all take care of our consoles differently.

I'd suggest having it repaired because if it has some valuable features like backwards compatibility and bluray, I'd keep it.

bury it the garden with a lovely ceremony, just family and some friends. That's what it would have wanted.
