I got a Parker 99R razor with Feather blades. I use Art of Shaving oil, lather, and lotion (got them on discount from the owner of a local outlet). They're on the high end though it's like $100-150 USD for the whole kit with the oil, lather, lotion and brush. Taylor of Old Bond Street is another higher-end one.

Dreadnought is slightly cheaper and gets good reviews.

The Blades Grim puts out a more affordable line that gets comparable reviews. You can get preshave oil, shave soap (similar product to lather just not pre-whipped for you) and aftershave oil for about $30 USD.

I haven't done much experimenting with these different brands. I know that the Art of Shaving lotion is reliable. I used to get terrible ingrown hairs on my neck and above my lip because I never let them grow super long. I haven't had that problem since switching to AoS. But for $30 or so total I guess you couldn't really go wrong trying The Blades Grim's stuff.

Have a look at the sputnik blades. As sharp and light as the feathers, but even less irritation...

I poked around with a sample of Sputniks for a couple shaves and I agree with the mixed reviews they seem to get. The coating takes a shave or so to wear off so you get a sketchy first shave and a good second and even third shave. Some people recommend corking to help rub the coat off before the first shave but that's a lot of effort over time. Not sure if I want to go back to them.

I went with the Dreadnought line and also threw in an Omega brush. Thanks for your recommendations! I'm very excited to try them out
