User avatar #237 - zraven (02/05/2014) [-]
Huh. Well, rest assured, you have other options.

Ok, easy answer is try using a spear to take him out. The Demon's there have a rare drop chance for the Demon's Spear. Very good weapon for it's low requirements. Could grab one of those, and just poke him to death while blocking.

Disposable items could work. I believe the animation for throwing a firebomb is shorter than the interval between his shots. Block, firebomb, block, firebomb.

It's risky, but a jump attack should go off between his shots, and should stagger him. However, if you miss, you're base-jumping.

Could just get to the second tower, get your back against the side facing them, and poison arrow him till he's poisoned, and wait.

Could summon someone. Always an option.

That they do. I was merely suggesting something that was easily available, effective, and had similar moves to the Dragon Tooth. Also, it's darned handy for PvE. knockdown-locking an enemy can be really, really helpful.
User avatar #218 - thesovereigngrave (02/05/2014) [-]
Well I mainly use it because it's aesthetically pleasing, since it matches Havel's armour.

If I do end up switching to the Black Iron armour, I'll probably switch over to my Black Knight Sword (+5). I have a sentimental attachment to that sword too, I got it from the Black Knight in Undead Burg, I finally got the stats to use it after I finished the Undead Parish, and then it was the only weapon I used until I got Dragon Tooth.
User avatar #226 - zraven (02/05/2014) [-]
Liking the look is an entirely viable reason to rock something in this game. And everything, ultimately, is viable, just harder to implement than other things.

One thing I will say, though, is to not be afraid to mix-and-match armor sets. It's a way to get you some great stat combos, and some really, really interesting looks. If you wanna feel a lil twisted for a while, equip all of Havel's set, but instead of the helm, use the Mask of the Child. You look like some sort of twisted serial-killer knight.

But yeah, mixing sets can give you a unique look. FIddle around with things, and settle on something that not only works, but you like the look of. It's much more rewarding.

I actually use Havel's Armour, shield, and Dragon Tooth (+3). The club is devastating, and I love it. But I can't wear any rings, because I need to keep Havel's Ring on to use the set, and the other ring I use if the Ring of Favour and Protection (I think that's what it's called, it's the one that breaks if you take it off).

In fact, that's actually why I haven't gone after the Four Kings yet. I should probably just switch over to the Black Iron armour and after them...
User avatar #217 - magictheg (02/05/2014) [-]
You shouldn't have too much trouble with four kings running a strength build, but when you land in the abyss just start panning your camera and look for the first one, charge him and smash his face in until he dies then start looking for the next one and repeat until boss fight is won
User avatar #219 - thesovereigngrave (02/05/2014) [-]

User avatar #216 - zraven (02/05/2014) [-]
The Dragon Tooth is fun and devastating, but it is really slow, and it's weight prohibits what else you can equip. Trust me, a lot of us really, REALLY wanted it to be more viable, especially since it's one of the only dragon weapons with strength scaling, but it's just too damned hard to cram into any builds, and too hard to hit with.

There are a lot of excellent great clubs in the game, with faster attack animations. Also, if you like that overhaed-slam-screwyou attack, the Zweihander's heavy des the same thing, with a faster windup, and it weighs a whopping 8 less than the tooth. I also believe it has a greater range. I recommend.

Still haven't beaten Seath. And Nito was easy once I decided to say "fuck it" and go back to wielding Havel's everything, and I actually knew where he was. The problem was that he'd repeatedly do the attack where he thrusted his sword into the ground, and it fucking pops out of the ground below you and rapes your ass. And I couldn't find him before I died.
User avatar #208 - zraven (02/05/2014) [-]
I'm running heavy armor, too. Was using Havel's until I got the Black Iron set maxed out. Using that, Havels Ring, and the Ring of Favor and Protection, I'm able to wear that whole set, carry my Reinforced Club and a Demon Spear in my weapon hand, a Stone Shield and a talisman in my off hand, and still be under half load limit (40 endurance).

Likely going to find one piece of gear to swap out for something slightly lighter so I can carry Havel's shield and be under half-load. I love that shield.

For Seath, Havel's is a good set because of it's resistances, especially it's curse resist. Using it and the Cursebite ring, you can take two or three of his all-around-crystal-curse thingies and not die from being cursed. Get around behind him, between his main tail and one of his side-tails, and tear into him when he breath-weapons. block or roll away when he tail thrashes. Block or roll away when he does the all-around thingie. Bring 20 estus flask, and you should be ok.

Yeah, liking the way I look is fairly important to me, since I am constantly looking at my character. And the Masks you get from the necromancers are just kinda creepy in general.

And I don't think everything is viable. Like, for example, the whip. It and the spiked one are neat weapons, but I just can't figure out a viable way to use them.

Um... dodge a lot, and hit even more? Yeah, I got nothing. Ok, MOST things are viable.
