>Being this big of a perpetual victim
>I would never go near a gun

Do you even care about defending yourself and your family? Can you even call yourself a man?
User avatar

Yeah you're so manly with your long range risk-free death stick. A little girl could kill someone with a gun if she had some basic training. Being a gun owner doesn't automatically mean you have a bigger dick than someone who has never touched a gun. I know they have their benefits, but manliness is not one of them.

#387 - durkadurka (06/07/2016) [-]
> manliness is not one of them.
Of course not. The part that's manly is the willingness (and capability) to defend yourself, your family, your country, etc.

They're not a necessity but this typically involves training with and ownership of firearms. If some dude is able to protect those things without fireams, more power to him.

In any case, the poster I was replying to does not seem to be interested in protecting even himself, let alone others. He seems to think it's better to just cooperate with the thug since it's easier to just let them have what they want.

This mentality is what has me questioning his right to call himself a man. Firearms themselves don't actually have a whole lot to do with it.

I don't own any guns but I'm still capable of defending what's mine as scummy people don't have guns in my country either. This isn't hypothetical either, I've done it.. Just last year two thieves broke into my house thinking nobody was home as there were no cars in the driveway. I bludgeoned one in the head with a baseball bat (he lived) and chased the other one away. The one I took down had a knife and the other was unarmed. If I had a gun I know I would have killed them both without a second thought and I'm glad I don't have that on my conscience. I'm man enough to admit that taking a human life would drastically lessen my mental well-being, whether justified or not. Maybe you're far more cold-blooded than I am, but I'm glad I live in a society where I'm almost certainly never going to have to kill anyone to protect what matters to me.

I mean to be fair bashing someone in the head with a bat brings you pretty damn close to killing someone to protect your stuff.

#433 - HonkIfIDriveWell (06/07/2016) [-]
That's my point. I was willing to kill but I'm glad it didn't turn out that way. I was so angry I can't even describe it. If I'd had a gun there's no doubt in my mind that I would have ended two human lives. The fact that I don't have to live with that means a lot to me.

"do you really think they are going to face a murder charge over some money"

I mean the man has already decided to rob a store full of innocent (presumably) people, I don't think I'm really going to sit there and question where his morals end.
#75 - colsera (06/07/2016) [-]
That sounds pretty fucking lame actually, no matter where you are in the world people want to steal the things you have, so why make it easy on the fuckers to take whats yours? Don't be such a fucking bitch and learn to defend your shit fag.

You do realize that the guns that criminals get are not the ones that you buy from a store right?

User avatar
#154 - cptsweatpants (06/07/2016) [-]
You do realize they are? In countries with long standing gun control, black market guns are down to an absolute minimum, usually in the hands of mafias and other larger criminal organizations, that can afford the risks and expenses associated with smuggling them in. Not the kind of people who do armed robberies. Nor is it profitable for them to sell these guns to crack heads to rob gas stations with.

Here in europe most robberies are henceforth done by people armed with knifes, cheap gas pistols or just numbers. Being a legal owner and carrying an actual weapon for protection therefore not only gives you an even bigger edge, but it also makes a mere handgun more than enough. In most cases mere mentioning of the fact that you are armed or showing the weapon is enough to send the assailants running.

And yes, we still have an occassional lunatic going on a spree, but there's a hell of a difference when he goes on it with 9mm handgun as opposed to a 7.62mm or a 5.56mm high-powered rifle.

Another nice effect is the added respect and safety this gives to police officers. They have guns. You don't. You don't wanna be fucking around with them.

not even going to bother reading all that, because A) I don't care and B) you're wrong because I've actually experienced the life and you're probably just listing off statistics that you read on the internet.

Canada has gun control. It's fucking easy to get serial free guns if you know who to talk to.

You honestly have no idea what your talking about. Why the hell would anyone use traceable guns for any sort of crime. America is literally attatched to mexico and you're saying its their gun policies that create crime. If it's easy to import them from america its easy to import them from mexico. Just saying.

#162 - cptsweatpants (06/07/2016) [-]
And when did I ever deny such a thing? I'm just giving you a different perspective. You are saying gun control doesn't work because robbers can get their hands on illegal guns very easily. And in the americas with the wide spread of organized crime violence and high amount of weapons in circulation that is certainly the case. But in regions where gun control has been long in place that is just no longer the case. Things don't change from day to day. In Europe we spent centuries controlling who carries what weapons, most of the illegal guns currently in circulation here are lost military surplus from days of communism, and it sure as hell isn't easy for a common robber to get his hands on one of those.

If you introduced gun laws to america right now then you are indeed right, nothing would change for the criminals. The proccess would take years, maybe even dozens of years. But the question isn't "Would it eventually work?" the question is "Is it worth it?"

How's your 30% more home invasions
50% more rapes
45% more assaults
24% more muggings going down there?
#144 - lazorking (06/07/2016) [-]
I did a bit of research and I found this.
It states that though the rape rate is higher, It is only by 5% and not 50% like you are saying.
While the violent gun crimes per 100 residents In USA is 6 times and the murder rate per one million people is 4 times then that of Australia. Sorry I couldn't find anything on home invasions or muggings. Also 18% more Australians feel more safe walking around at night then Americans.
But I don't blame you for thinking this. As I was looking around I found a few articles on how groups like the NRA is using Australia's crime statistics and "cheery picking" from it so the data is skewed or sometimes just outright lieing about it.

People who are willing to threaten your life for physical goods aren't above ending your life on a whim. To put yourself at the total mercy of violent thugs is to say you don't care if you live or die, or that you would simply rather let others decide for you.
