Reindeer and Caribou are just different names for the same thing. Caribou and wild reindeer are the same, just different names from different cultures. Sae organisms, different names.

"a trait unique in the deer family" From your article. They are both in the deer family, therefore they are deer. "Only in North America are wild Rangifer referred to as caribou. In Eurasia, reindeer are classified as either domesticated or wild." Also from your link, showing that Caribou is an American colloquial term. That is how similar they are. That in Europe and other parts of the world they must be differentiated by saying wild or domestic, not by different species names. They are subspecies, which is the lowest degree of differentiation between organisms. They are both deer, whether you want to believe it or not. Your own link proves you wrong. The only real difference in size.

No, it's like saying a house cat and a lion are cats. Not like saying a house cat is a lion. They're both cats. And whether domesticated or not they are the same. It's different in the case of dogs and cats because they've been domesticated for so long that there are morphologoical differences, but with Reindeer and Caribou there are no prominent morphological differences.

A Caribou IS a deer. Just like Elk and Moose. It doesn't have to say "deer" in it to be a deer. Although, Caribou are also known as Reindeer, so by another name it is made apparent that they are deer.

Wrong! They are a subfamily of deer! That's like saying a fucking house cat is a fucking lion! And reindeer are NOT caribou, they are a domesticated species of caribou!
