I live less than 10 minutes from Ferguson I can attest all the things portrayed on the news were to get people angry. What bothers be with people is Ignorance.
It was just Trashy people being Trashy. White/Black/Whatever
People look for reasons to take advantage of people, the system, or their neighbors.
I'm not Pro Hannity or O'reily, but this clip shows what I'm talking about Hannity’s Interview with Ferguson Protester Goes Off the Rails Fast

maybe not ferguson, but the eric garner case is still fucked up
User avatar #222 - questionableferret (04/02/2015) [-]
If people ever make noise about the Garner case being justified just drop them something more clean-cut like this story:

Dragged the guy out of the car, immediately started punching him, they planted drugs in his car, he got to hospital and immediately took a drugs test to prove he was clean. The Garner case is fucked up, the Ferguson case is fucked up, but this shit? Damn I'd love to see what kind of defence the dumbasses can come out for with this one.

damn, thanks man
User avatar #239 - questionableferret (04/02/2015) [-]
Don't bother thanking me. Most people already have their minds made up on this subject before they open their mouths. Truth is, like all things, culture defies simplicity.

There's a lot of Black criminals but their crimes come because of their poverty (these trends are reflected in areas of white-poverty in places like the UK, a very similar culture) however since in the US people started making it into a race-issue (mainly because it was one and people like to ignore the facts to support their racist ignorance) the colour of the skin became synonymous with the stereotype thus making it harder for many already maligned and poverty-stricken sub-cultures to find employment in an over-stuffed job market thus dooming themselves and all but their most intelligent children into a culture where they justifiably see much of the country, especially including the police, as their enemies, thus making the police view them as enemies in turn alongside whatever social biases they already have and oh my god the cycle of back and forth just keeps going and making the problem worse and more complicated.)

Alas, it's very hard to get simple people to view things through a lens that is anything other than simple, leading to the dumbest people on both sides being the most vocal people more often than not and further perpetuating the animosity between both sides.

Basically, that story right there is a nuke and the people that you would be trying to convince would be the cockroaches. The people who it would affect were already swayed by far less compelling evidence leaving only the imbeciles, who aren't worth the time of day. If I were you I'd suggest you just not think about it and maybe go look up Wolf-Pac if you feel like you want to actually make a difference instead of fruitlessly slamming your head into the brick wall that is Funnyjunk's vocal right-wing. At least with Wolf-Pac people are actually well on their way to fixing this fucking country.

Ferguson has never been racist.
A criminal robbed a store, assaulted an officer and was shot.
Nothing in that entire scenario was racist.
You'd be better off crying about Garner, but even then, don't eat nothing but gravy and crisco for 40 years and an increased heart rate caused by resisting arrest won't kill you.
User avatar #201 - questionableferret (04/02/2015) [-]
Eh, the facts about the Fergusson situation are sketchy and support both sides of the argument, plus the initial police statement indicated the cop did not know about the robbery when he pulled Brown over for jaywalking.

Then when it came to the indictment hearing the prosecutor basically threw the case and allowed a witness testimony from someone who not only wasn't there but also had a history of lying to the cops.

In the end it comes down to your own opinions because wether we like it or not shit is pretty damn unclear in this case, regardless of how right-wing or left-wing media try to spin it. What is clear is it is a clear example of the corruption in the law system and the reactions from both sides of the issue has unearthed the very worst scum from both camps.

I'd argue that wether this and the Garner case is to do with race or not is less important than how it demonstrates the cops' over-reliance on brutal violence to get the job done. However when it comes to an actual example of race AND brutality there's a much, much better example:

The cops were also caught on the cameras planting drugs in the guy's car. People can spin the Brown and Garner cases one way or the other but this one (and honestly, a -LOT- of others, are far more clean cut and demonstrate a systematic corruption in the system of Law in the US that spits in the face of all the cops out there actually trying to do good.)

No you fucking idiot.
The only contradictions in Ferguson were recanted or made by welfare receiving drug addicts.
Go back and read through the grand jury you fucking faggot.
He was a criminal who deserved every bullet his fat ass took.
Fuck Garner too. Don't resist arrest and you wont' fucking die.
I've been arrested and detained, I'm still fucking alive.

User avatar #214 - nigeltheoutlaw (04/02/2015) [-]
And yet he was still in a banned chokehold after clearly being subdued for some time and incapable of resisting. He initially resisted arrest, but he was not after a time and yet still had the banned hold used on him. It wasn't murder, but it sure as hell was negligent homicide by the cop using the chokehold.
#35 - kalendric (04/02/2015) [-]
Yeah. The only thing you can fault the police for with Garner was the choke hold.
#104 - fefe (04/02/2015) [-]
No, not even that. The guy died of cardiac arrest that had nothing to do with being choked, but likely was due both to the guy's already poor heart health plus being in a fight/flight situation that amped up his sympathetics. If not that, he would have died from cardiac arrest in some other event not long after.

Nixon invented Reagan, and even tried to single-handedly totally undermine the election process by making his opposition look like they ordered an assassination of another candidate

He ordered for George McGovern paraphernalia to be planted in the house of the guy who tried to assassinate George Wallace. That's insane.

Can someone please explain to me why everyone thinks Reagan was so amazing? I never really understood it... Politics really is not my forte.
#171 - mindyourownbusines (03/18/2015) [-]
Reagan was/is viewed as great for a number of reasons, mostly for being a "regular American" in mindset and actually using the power he was granted by the people for the people.

The Washington mindset, epitomized by Carter's malaise speech, told people the best we could do is learn to live with high inflation, a sluggish economy, and high food and fuel costs. Reagan promised that wasn't true.

Reagan embraced nuclear energy even in the aftermath of 3 mile island, because he had studied the issue and knew that was an anomalous case. He supported the continued development in alternative energies, but fully embraced continued use of existing untapped energy sources like oil, coal, and natural gas (which he indicated would become more efficient to obtain and use as tech improved, which it has).

On the economy: He came into office facing the greatest recession since the great depression – unemployment reached 10.8% in 1982 – but implemented policies that helped the economy rebound to the point that unemployment dropped to 5.2% when he left office. (Also, despite what Democrats claim the long term economy has been better since Reagan, too. From 1948 to 1981 the US had average unemployment of 5.29% while unemployment averaged only 4.81% from the full implementation of Reagan’s tax policies until 2010.)

When the first Reagan Tax-Cuts were implemented in 1983 the poverty rate had risen to 15.3 percent. The rate declined every single year until he left office in 1989 with a poverty rate of 12.8 percent. During that same period, the definition for poverty (in real, inflation-adjusted dollars) was increased by $500, meaning more even people could be included.

And with all this, he actually managed to shift more of the tax burden off the poor and onto the rich! The share of the tax burden paid by the top ten percent increased from 48.0% in 1981 to 57.2% in 1988. And the top 1% saw their share increase from 17.6% in 1981 to 27.5% in 1988.

And, again contrary to what most people know for “fact,” tax revenues increased (w/o inflation). Using benchmarks placed by a dissenting commenter on another forum (1947-1979 vs. 1980-2012) the “low tax rate era” actually collected more (in real dollars) tax revenue. The earlier period saw tax revenue average $758.2 Billion each year, the latter period saw tax revenues of $1.79 Trillion.

There were other reasons people appreciated Reagan’s statesmanship, but to keep this from getting even longer, just consider. When he took office, Mutually Assured Destruction (everybody can nuke everybody, so hopefully they won’t start anything) was the best option against Russia. Reagan worked passionately to gain funding for researching and implementing defense systems to be employed by friendly nations in the region as well as in the US, which eventually helped bring the Soviets to more reasonable negotiating position and eventually bring more openness between the US and Soviet Union.

tl;dr – Reagan believed in (and represented) the best of America through ingenuity, common sense, research, vision and compassion.
User avatar #79 - damping (03/18/2015) [-]
OPEC lost some of its control over the world economy, causing the economy to improve greatly in the US. Many think the president directly controls the economy. Along with this, Reagan greatly reduced taxes across the board. Of course people were very happy with this. He was also President when the Soviet Union fell, and is attributed with spending the USSR to death.

The problem was his policies of supply side economics and massive increases in government spending combined with decreases in taxes caused serious long term problems. He was the one who started the massive rise in national debt we have today. It is very easy to lower taxes, but very hard to raise them back up to previous levels.

In summary, he was a great short term president, and a terrible long term one. Most remember the great times when he was in office and fail to attribute many of our current problems to his policies.
