I wouldn't really say it was meant to be impressive, but more so just kinda funny. There's so many ways to die in dark souls, and yet this was one of the better ways visually that he could have survived via tears.

It's not borrowed though. The way the game is designed to be punishing and demanding, with one little slip meaning death. It's the definition of a roguelike. But then when you die you start all over so close to your death with nothing to show you died or that it affected you one bit but that you lost a few souls you can pick right back up. I know you don't have to agree with me but it seems to bastardize everything a roguelike standfor. Because it's harsh, but you failed and suddenly its patting on the back saying 'there there, you'll get better sweety, go try again'
