The dumber homos were far less likely to reproduce, so over thousands of generations we got smarter and smarter. The only thing superior about us is our intelligence, physically we are far less fit for survival in a jungle than any of the other apes.

They're not completely inferior. Sure, you can probably outsmart a chimpanzee, but try to fight one.

Because they have an evolutionary line that went down a path dissimilar to ours, that while allowing them to adapt and survive in their habitat, unfortunately did not afford them the higher functions which were developed within our evolutionary line. What you see above is a very, very, very simplified version of what happened since our common ancestor. We didn't branch off into Homo Sapiens right off the bat, there were millions of years of "in-between" humans (think Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, etc.) that were, by our standards, almost mindless animals. Over many millions of years, we evolved into smarter creatures. While we still don't know why this particular form of creature, the form of the Homo Sapien, allows us such a high level of abstract thinking and function, but we do know it has to do with the perfection of the Homo form over very long periods of time. Remember, even though we've advanced very quickly relative to the time the Earth has existed, it still took a long ass time to get there.
Gorillas and monkeys, by comparison, evolved with different mechanisms in mind, and as such were unable to use evolution to hone their abstract thinking skills. IN short, they are not as advanced because, again, while we "started out together", we went down very distinct and separate paths. Think of friends you've lost touch with over the years. Say you see them only 4 years later, and while you are prospering with a good job, a nice place, and a significant other; they may be struggling to make ends meet, have to couch surf, and are forever tfw no gf. It's like that, but instead of 4 years, it's millions of years with monkeys and humans.
That's the gist of it, anyway.

There are a lot of answers to this question with no single, definitive one. It's probably a whole bunch of them altogether that did it. For example, seeing color meant we could easier identify the younger and more nutritious shoots and leaves, we ate meat which has more calories, we started to walk upright, we use tools, we developed a history (i.e. cave paintings and oral tradition), etc.
