I don't think ANYONE could have done it, it certainly had to be someone popular and in the public mind with a certain amount of oratory and rhetoric skills.

It also had to be someone who was completely willing to disregard all of the rules of decorum surrounding politics, which he was.

I definitely think he helped the Republican base find a candidate that they felt spoke for them where Neocons simply didn't.
User avatar
#109 - wolvesbrickwall (05/12/2016) [-]
I agree with that. But to say it was easy, to me, would imply that anyone could have ran and as long as they had anti-neocon, populist attitudes, they would have won. Which I don't believe. It's a combination Trump's year of planning (I firmly believe he's been setting this up since when Reagan was in office) and his savvy for politics (on the politician to people level, not politician to politician), as well as banking in on people feeling disenfranchised.

He's a populist in a time when political disillusionment is at an all time high, so no, I'd say he had it pretty damn easy. I'm not saying he's not a skilled politician, because there's no doubt he is, but that doesn't mean it was tough for him to get where he is.

And again, the reason Clinton had a tough time is because we are in a disillusioned time. I'm 90% sure she only won BECUZ WOMAN.

#107 - wolvesbrickwall (05/12/2016) [-]
I feel as though he has created the political disillusionment, though, or at least helped people release they were fed up with the establishment (i.e. "Silent Majority").

So I guess the disagreement comes down to a kind of chicken/egg scenario.

...what exactly is your argument against me? All I'm saying is that Trump didn't have it that rough, not that Clinton did.
User avatar
#105 - wolvesbrickwall (05/12/2016) [-]
Trump has had to go through the largest, strongest class of Republican nominees in history (not including incumbents, of course.) So I disagree with the notion he has had it easy.

I bring up Hillary to point out a campaign that should have, in fact, been easy.
