...And this is exactly my point.

If you're arguing because you care, I expect insults. They're still wrong, but I can expect them.

But if you've just admitted to arguing for the sake of arguing, and you're still resorting to insults, then you're an awful conversation partner and you're not worth having, man. I'm cool with arguing for the sake of arguing, but why would I entertain you if you just intend to insult me? That's like playing soccer with a dude who regularly kicks you instead of the ball.

Spiderman is one of my favourite Marvel characters, when I say I argue to argue it doesn't mean that ill claim something is red just because you say it's blue, it means if i have a counter point I will use it and attempt a conversation.

I didn't anywhere near throw an insult your way until that last comment and that was juxtaposing that you were acting like a baby throwing it's toys out of a pram with the last one.

If you took offence to the use of the word bullshit you shouldn't have, might just be a cultural thing here bullshit is just interchangeable with wrong.

Yeah hence my point, comic Spiderman is only 15 when he gets his powers so there's no reason we cant extend the timeline a bit in the same way I mean with make-up and stuff Glover could pass for early 20s

So you tell people that what they're saying is bullshit and accusing them of belittling you JUST for the sake of arguing?

I'm sorry, I totally stopped being able to take you seriously once I read that. Have a good one.

I wasn't accuse you of belittling me I was saying you were ignoring key components of characters and their development.

I also noticed you didn't address the points, you can address them or cry till your mum changes you.

If you put Miles into a movie he has to have a spiderman before him, to be inspired by and for the attempt to be made to recreate Parkers powers

You specifically just described religion, which does consistently and directly impact your values. Not race, which does not have to. Are there racial biases to aspects of culture? Of course there are. Does that mean ALL members of a race act that way? No, it doesn't.

I never said everybody is the same. Stereotypes exist for a reason, but there's a difference between something being MORE likely to happen and something ALWAYS happening. Racial stereotypes have long since stopped being absolute. People of all races grew up in the same neighborhood as me, being taught the same values by their parents, going to the same schools, and learning from the same teachers.

We're not talking about whether or not there are ANY difference. Just whether those differences are absolute. Because if they're not (protip: they're not) then there's no difference in skin color for a character like Spider-Man. Do you know anything about his backstory, or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing? You want to tell me which part of his backstory a black kid *can't* have gone through?
User avatar #26 - whyfalsewhy (03/29/2015) [-]
In saying a character is racially inter changeable you are saying we are all the same.

Religion and Race are two things that we are born into both come with their pros and their cons and that's why I used that example, we cant help them and religion is the only one we can change and even that is a tough one to get away from.

Aright ill go into it, I'm assuming that you are talking about Peter Parker as he is the most common white Spiderman.

Peter was raised in Queens in New York this position for a young black man puts it at extremely bad odds that he would have gotten into college or even finished high school. but I will concede that I would not dwell on this point as Aunt May and Uncle Ben raised him well and he could have beaten the odds and still had it believable.

Next I'm assuming that he isn't mixed race and purely African American.
Peters parents were CIA agents, now even if it were to be based in the here and now peters parents died when he was very young 6-9 years old, now given they would have had peter in the year 2000 and they both had pretty high up careers they would have had to start in the 70's or 80's these were not easy times for even highly educated people of colour to get jobs in any place never mind the CIA not to mention Peters mother had the fact she was a woman working against her in these times too.

These are two problems with the believability of the character from the get go just given the area he was raised and his ethnic background, not to mention his parents background being very unlikely also.

I will be honest i do argue to argue i find it dose more to open me to the views of others and vice versa.

I hate when they change the skin color/ gender/ sexuality/ etc. of the secret identity. As long as they change the secret identity, I don't care if its the same hero.

For example, Miles is not a copy of Peter, he is his own person and i'm ok with this. Electro is white, but is shown as black in the new Spider Man movie, i'm not ok with this.
