'Europe', no they don't.
Maybe in Russia they do, you forget Europe is not a country, but a collective of about 20.

The correct number is closer to 50 but I can understand how you got Europe and the European Union confused. Secondly I never said Europe was a country. Lastly dressing as a police officer isn't native to a single country

IF that ends up happening we might as well have a rotating dynasty of Clinton's and Bush's that trade power once every 4-8 years. I'd rather vote for a shoe.

Ok I get what Socialism is, that is not really what I need to know I want to know Bernies specific views on issues. Because Socialism in any form would not work in America. Like Russia America is too big we would not end up with the form of socialism that Finland would have, it ultimately would become State run socialism. Which even the video made clear did not work.

Now my belief in that we in the US should go back to our core Republic system in the US is based on the fact that the largest form of government has the least amount of power over the people while the smallest form of government has the largest say over the people, or even the individual. In a republic the Governments role is nothing more than to protect the rights of the people. Every state within the US would have the ability and right to govern themselves, and lets say an individual state within the US wanted to rule by socialism, under a republic they can, lets say more locally the town within a state does not want to be socialist style government but the larger state is forcing them to be socialist. Then that is where protecting the rights come in to play, the federal government is supposed to step in and protect the town from it's state, protect it's rights.

So ultimately I do feel that a true republic in the US mostly because of it's size, would benefit more from a republic than socialism, which would allow for socialism in the smaller states if they all wanted to be socialist.

So anyway I know what socialism is and I know what a republic is, and in my opinion a republic is still better for the US than any form of socialism, but not that it might work in it's smaller form. However, going back to my original question, what are Berine's views on the specific issues, like the economy, state rights, and ect. Like because he's socialist does he believe that all income would be distributed? and Issues such as rights, Marriage, abortion, Freedom of speech, ect.

Video related to a republic point of view. it compares a republic v/s a democracy and ultimately I feel socialism would fall under a democracy. Enjoy.

Also, "...theres not much your pistol is going to do." makes my point doesn't it? We should have access to the same guns the police and military have then shouldn't we? For just this reason. Thanks for pointing that out.

inb4 take off your tinfoil hat that's never going to happen. Libya and Syria waged war on their own people this year. That's a common occurrence throughout history even in European countries late in the 20th century. That's fine if you want to have that attitude, but don't push that shit on me.

User avatar #387 - whitie (07/27/2015) [-]
A few politicians try to bend an issue to fit their agenda, so we should just say fuck it and throw the whole idea away?

Literally anyone in america could tell you what a clip is

The government has tanks and drones and jets and aircraft carriers and afvs and attack helicopters, and soldiers armed with assault rifles, rpgs, grenade launchers, body armor, and high yield explosive charges plus nukes if the government wanted to take your freedom away theres not much your pistol is going to do

Have you ever tried smoking? Every single cigarette is a choice. Sure, once you've enjoyed it a few times you know how it feels and then you go, "hey - I just finished a task - maybe I'll have a cigarette and look at the sky for a few minutes before going back to my desk to start a new task". It may be psychologically "addicting" in the same way dessert is - once you know how rewarding it is to have a scoop of ice cream (or six) after finishing a delicious meal, aren't you, too, "addicted" to dessert? Is it no longer a "choice"?

Sorry man - I know the (largely US-American) anti-smoking propaganda says shit like nicotine is super addictive and cigarettes are super harmful and tobacco is a shitty drug and all this shit (I grew up in the US and graduated from D.A.R.E. too) - but since moving to Europe nearly 10 years ago, I see happy, relatively healthy people smoking. Of course inhaling so much smoke over a lifetime can damage your lungs, but so can living in a car-infested city like New York, Boston, Detroit, etc. Eating McDonald's twice a week can shorten your lifespan more than a pack-a-day would.

Again: smoking cigarettes or using heroin or ordering two meals at once are all my business - not yours. You can think I'm a fat fuck or a loser or whatever, and perhaps I've conditioned myself to enjoy the benefits of a post-coital cigarette, but you know what? Fuck you. That's how I choose to live my life, and if I really wanted to change it, I would. And if I really wanted to change but I felt too "weak" to do it on my own (i.e. no discipline), then there are programs out there to help me.

PS - I'll do my best never to blow smoke into your face or even smoke in crowds, and will move or put it out upon request. I'm a kind, gentle person who would rather have a decent conversation than have a cigarette or win an argument. And I don't play with my phone when talking to someone.

Peace and love, bra.
#211 - anon (07/26/2015) [-]
You're right about a couple of things, and you seem like a decent person who smokes, not like the douchebags who don't put it out when asked to but (As an ex-smoker myself) cigarettes are pathetic as fuck, try not smoking for a week or two and light one up, believe me, it is fucking disgusting. It is indeed your life and your decisions but dying of smoke related diseases is just a really dumb way to die, heroin at least gives you a high, smoking doesn't do fucking shit.
User avatar #105 - subaqueousreach (07/26/2015) [-]
While yes, smoking is your choice and I'll never tell anyone they shouldn't smoke because honestly it's none ofy business, you seem to be horribly misinformed of the effect tobacco and nicotine have on someone's body. It's not just a psychological addiction, it's a chemical addiction, much like heroin.

Like the other guy said it's not so much a choice after a while as it is a necessity. I've known smokers all my life and so many times they've tried to quit and failed. The only person I've seen successfully quit smoking is my dad. If you like smoking that's fine, but don't pretend there's nothing wrong with it. That's just blatant ignorance.
User avatar #111 - fatminion (07/26/2015) [-]
pfft. You ever done heroin, bro? The physical effects of coming down are shitting your pants, vomiting, cold sweats. And this was only after 6 months of about 1g/day. I smoke about 25 cigs/day. If I go a day without, I simply feel that I'd love to have a cigarette. But again - it's MY choice. Just because you grew up in the US where they said "cigarettes cause cancer" doesn't mean if you start smoking you'll get cancer. less than 10% of lifelong smokers get cancer, and only 80% of people with lung cancer are smokers. There are a lot of myths about just how bad smoking is, but OBVIOUSLY it's better NOT to smoke or drink and it's better to exercise and shit.

But that doesn't mean you should consider smokers to be stupid or ignorant. We smokers for the most part make an informed decision. Here is my smoking logic:
- I will likely die between 65-85 (based on family history)
- if I eat right, exercise, don't smoke or drink, then I might make it longer than 85
- I don't really care how long I live. My grandpa had a hard time walking and breathing since he was 55, and he was a non-smoker and drank alcohol-free (well, after 20 years of heavy drinking/smoking)
- my risk of lung/mouth/throat/gum cancer might increase with smoking, but not by much. And if I DO get cancer, it'll probably be after I'm 50 anyway.
- most of my friends smoke, and it's a social thing - a reason to take a break from the dance floor or the office desk

here's some reading material. I'm going for a smoke and I'm going to enjoy it like you enjoy your 2nd amendment rights: www.livescience.com/3093-smoking-myths-examined.html

peace

1. I'm Canadian
2. I never called smokers stupid or ignorant, I said you were ignorant for thinking there's nothing bad about smoking.

And if you're smoking 25 cigarettes a day, then I'm sorry to tell you that you're addicted, bud. You can try to justify it to yourself all you like, that's how the brain copes with shit like that, but you're addicted and that's all there is to it.

If it were only 2 or 3 a day, then I'd be more inclined to believe it being your decision. That's like saying you drink 6 bottles of vodka a day and then trying to tell people you're not an alcoholic. It just doesn't work that way.
User avatar #123 - fatminion (07/26/2015) [-]
sorry, man. I guess I thought you were whitie. I spent a few summers in Ontario during college. Cool place.

I have this conversation with my girlfriend all the time. She says I'm addicted to alcohol and cigarettes because I drink 4-10 beers a day probably 4 days a week and a pack or more a day. It may be considered a psychological addiction and I may have some physical addiction signs. I did also snort heroin for a whole year and was up to 1gram a day at the end before quitting cold turkey. The fact of the matter is: addiction is not necessarily bad. I wanted to start smoking and I enjoy smoking. I enjoy having a few beers after work and getting drunk with my friends. I enjoy taking acid and doing blow every now and again. I enjoy eating way too much and staying up two days in a row or binge-watching a film series.

I think everyone has some things they choose to be addicted to, and yes - some things are more habit-forming than others (TV shows, video games, clubbing, music, cigarettes). But is that necessarily bad? Is it not perfectly healthy in a psychological sense to enjoy something you know was engineered purely for your pleasure, even if it has less than desirable health effects? I'd probably need PhDs in human psychology, physiology and philosophy in order to determine the factors that determine free will and addiction and how they relate to morals. It might just be me rationalising my addiction away, but hey - at least I have the illusion of happiness and contentment, which is more than most can say.

Perhaps I have a very unpopular opinion on these things, but for me life is too short to worry about things like health. I enjoy talking with and being with friends and strangers - getting to know the people and the world and the cultures around me. I like to enjoy a sunset and like to write songs and poetry. I like to jerk off every day when I wake up. I'm happy even if I have chains of addiction. Perhaps these chains are the only thing tethering me to this otherwise meaningless existence. No, I'm not super dark or edgy or depressed, I just think that my life is there for my enjoyment. If I can't enjoy it, then what's the point?

To each his own and peace and love, my Canadian brother.
User avatar #103 - whitie (07/26/2015) [-]
Perhaps im not conveying my meaning properly, I never meant that smoking a cigarette was literally not a choice all im saying is that it is a choice made under coercion (it may not be in the literal sense, but I feel the word is still applicable), and choices made under coercion are usually given more leniency and they should be in most (but not all) cases, im just saying there is an almost universally accepted opinion that smoking is a compulsory habit and is different than something trivial like a bad song you can just turn off when you're done with it
