It's a darksaber.
#171 - skrukkatrollet (07/19/2015) [-]
No, a darksaber is somethink completly different from a lightsaber with a black crystal
User avatar #127 - charagrin (07/18/2015) [-]
It's solid Light" or in this case anti-light, it absorbes color from around it making things seen beyond the blade appear greyish within close proximity to the blade.
User avatar #135 - TehGordonFreeman (07/18/2015) [-]
so like looking at the center of a black hole, but a lightsaber blade.
User avatar #136 - charagrin (07/18/2015) [-]
You got it, I remember the description of the blade in one of the older books where Luke gets one when his breaks down and he has to either use it or die. Pretty bichin, just a normal blade thats made of darkest night, sucking color from all it's "light" touches. Bitchin
User avatar #112 - mountainyard (07/18/2015) [-]
I have no idea how it would work, but it is a cool thought. A lightsaber that absorbs light instead of emitting it!

User avatar #120 - mountainyard (07/18/2015) [-]

i didnt know if darksabers were an established thing or not, i was just playing with words because it seemed daft to call a weapon that absorbs light instead of emitting it a lightsaber

I remember reading somewhere that in order to get the lightsaber, part of your training was building it (maybe from scratch)
#155 - anon (07/19/2015) [-]
That's just Jedi training. The during the height of the Sith empires they would mass-produce generic lightsabers with the synthetic red crystals.
User avatar #156 - xkaijux (07/19/2015) [-]

User avatar #151 - clonedcommando (07/18/2015) [-]
not from scratch but you were given base components and a focusing crystal. So while most lightsabers were similar they all had some personal flair from the jedi who made them.
#18 - grumpyhacker (07/18/2015) [-]
According to the star wars wiki its tough shit to learn to use one, a lightsaber is an arc of plasma inside a force-field. On the other hand the little children in the Jedi HQ that are dicking around with lightsabers are using "trainee" lightabers. Those are glorified baseball bats (the worst possible wound from one is like a bad bruise) and I would kill for one of those.
#169 - popeflatus (07/19/2015) [-]
How can Yoda levitate an x-wing but not himself?
#193 - grumpyhacker (07/19/2015) [-]
Jedis do levitate themselves, when they jump super high and attempt to land they use the force to boost their jump and slow their fall, i bet the only reason they don't fly is because that could possible break the plot line
#210 - popeflatus (07/19/2015) [-]
I'm going with the plot line.

#56 - anon (07/18/2015) [-]

User avatar #93 - labree (07/18/2015) [-]
allot of lightsabers do

they have staff length, shota, and i think a couple others i can think of

thats what the two buttons are for, one to change it, one to turn it on

#213 - anon (07/19/2015) [-]
If it's not in Rebels, the Clone Wars Cartoon, the Movies or one or two of the new books, it's not canon.
User avatar #189 - apurpleliger (07/19/2015) [-]
Most stuff that is set before the events of the movies are still canon. It's pretty much just that anything conflicting with the story of the new movie is non-canon now.

They do. Obi Won actually used it (possibly by accident) when killing Darth Maul. This is obviously not specified in the movie, but I believe it was in the novelization of the Phantom Menace, which was written based on the script of the movie, and published about a month before the movie was.
#71 - anon (07/18/2015) [-]
I'm pretty sure even Masters would adjust their saber's power when sparring. So i think normal sabers do have a switch/dial
#29 - yoshtar (07/18/2015) [-]
I coulda sworn I read on the wiki that one could adjust the power on a real lightsaber, and that training sabers merely only had the 'low power, burns and electric shocks only' mode.

Without doing a single iota of research, I'm guessing that his dwarfism was overtaken by a pituitary gland issue after his body fully matured.
User avatar #8 - citruslord (07/18/2015) [-]
Does that mean that dwarfism could be potentially treated by manual stimulation/alteration of the pituitary? Or are there serious potential side effects that would hinder this?
#66 - anon (07/18/2015) [-]
ofcourse theres side effects look at this nigga head
#16 - aleksandurr (07/18/2015) [-]
This is fuckey to begin with, because excess human growth hormone after your puberty growth causes broadening of bones, not lengthening. This is called acromegaly, look it up in google images, its crazy bad for bone structure. This guy who became a giant must've been a ridiculously late bloomer to grow in height, or some weird genetic issue that caused his bone plates to never fuse.
User avatar #50 - mutzaki (07/18/2015) [-]
I wonder if you could do it in cases of dwarf children, and only for a limited amount of time. As far as I know, the people who end up deformed giants most commonly only get to that stage because they have a tumor on the pituitary gland, and so they get perpetual growth hormones well after their 20's. I just read up on directly giving children growth hormones, and how it didn't prove very effective, but directly affecting the source within the body seems to be very effective. I'm sure people have thought of it before, though, and concluded that it's either too risky or doesn't work.
#68 - aleksandurr (07/18/2015) [-]
The thing with Human Growth Hormone is that its unlike other hormones, you need A LOT of it, the old way of extracting HGH from dead bodies wasn't suitable for this. Nowadays, we can harvest massive amounts of it from bacteria that have the DNA coding for the HGH hormone on their plasmids, just like what we do with insulin now. However, you need to get a lot of injections of that stuff, which isn't fun, and unlike insulin which is relatively safe if the bacteria survive to make it into your body and flourish, if a culture of HGH creating bacteria found the right place to grow in your body, it could cause acromegaly/gigantism. But hey, thats a risk almost all of them are willing to take. also, don't forgot that this only treats pituitary dwarfism, where the bones in the arms and legs don't lengthen. True dwarfism won't be affected as much, as excess HGH during growth doesn't really do anything, assuming it doesn't linger.
User avatar #12 - halor (07/18/2015) [-]
there would be serious side effects to this, in this guys case the increase in height left him bedridden for life. There was a report about a guy who suffered from gigantism also had bone deformities in his upper arm (they physically curved themselves) so he was really weak
User avatar #4 - grimfuck (07/17/2015) [-]
