Ok that makes more sense because you'd have to put a positively crazy number of rounds for a semi automatic through it to starting setting off the rounds on it's own

If you say they were both heavily used beforehand it may be a case of a hot gun like I mentioned before but on a smaller scale if not I would double check the firing pin make sure it's not free floating either due to design or because it comes loose from use

What if... what if they made a full-auto sniper rifle?
User avatar #32 - warlockrichard (04/15/2015) [-]
well the selector switch on the m14 can be flipped to rock and roll but you also need to change the magazine every 20 rounds giving it at least a little time to cool down
User avatar #34 - heartlessrobot (04/15/2015) [-]
You could probably fit it with a high-capacity magazine.
Do they make barrel mags to fit a .50 cal sniper rifle?
User avatar #35 - warlockrichard (04/15/2015) [-]
I honestly don't know but if you plan on using that many rounds or want a full auto option you might as well get a m2 .50 cal machine gun
User avatar #36 - heartlessrobot (04/15/2015) [-]
Is it as accurate as a sniper rifle?
User avatar #37 - warlockrichard (04/15/2015) [-]
well it has a max effective range of 1800 m and a max range of 6800 m but if you want full auto there's only so much accuracy you're going to get

Unless you get something to hold it in a way it cannot move at all with recoil.
User avatar #45 - bluenebula (04/15/2015) [-]
Guns need recoil. Pistols fired from stands often break, because the stands offer no roof for recoil.
User avatar #39 - warlockrichard (04/15/2015) [-]
it's a .50 cal machine gun no matter how well you mount it or bolt it down there's always going to be some recoil especially on full auto and especially at those extreme distances
User avatar #40 - heartlessrobot (04/15/2015) [-]
What if you seal it airtight at three spots, each two inches of the length of the gun, one near the end of the barrel, one at the back, and one near the middle, using solid steel?
User avatar #41 - warlockrichard (04/15/2015) [-]
Then I wish the best of luck at hitting anything that so much as moves a foot in any direction also watch a video of one shooting the barrel rocks back with each shot absorbing some of the recoil so what you suggested might actually break the gun I'm not actually sure
User avatar #42 - heartlessrobot (04/15/2015) [-]
Mount the 2 inch thick plates on a sort of swivel.

that sounds like all you've manged to accomplish is adding weight to the weapon
User avatar #172 - heartlessrobot (04/15/2015) [-]

99/100 times a gun went off because the trigger was bumped. Modern guns can't just go off by themselves.
User avatar #8 - warlockrichard (04/14/2015) [-]
Misfire usually means when the gun fails to fire. I assume you mean something like a hot gun when the weapon has been fired so much (like say over 100 rounds in a minute) that it overheats and ignites the gunpowder popping off rounds on it's own. A difficult feat to accomplish with a sniper rifle. That being said I do agree that it is always a good idea to keep your weapon pointing down range at all times even when not in use.
