Sorry, neighborhood. What's up?
User avatar #6888 to #6887 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
Ah you know, music, the usual. Worked today, went over to a friend's house afterward with some peeps and played with her cat. Thas about it. Nothing eventful

User avatar #6889 to #6888 - themagicwizard (07/22/2015) [-]
Swimming, listening to music, playing music and watching Star Wars Episode IV with some friends. I brought my old electric organ out and I've been jamming on it.
User avatar #6890 to #6889 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
lol my friend had one of those. I think he still has it actually. I and a few others helped him move it from some guy's house I think he found on craigslist, and he was giving it away for free I think haha. It was pretty neat from what I remember.
User avatar #6891 to #6890 - themagicwizard (07/22/2015) [-]
They're the instrument everyone has hidden in their house somewhere, even if they don't know it. One of my friends found one in his basement last year. I was helping clean out some stuff from my great aunt's house last winter and there was one in there too. They're like some magical phenomenon.

All the ones I've come across are pretty small and one person could easily move them, so I dunno what kind he had. I like them, though.
User avatar #6892 to #6891 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
It wasn't like spatially huge but it was dense, so it was really heavy to carry and haul into a car.

You should see the piano we have here. It's so old, and it sounds like it. There's at least a couple dead keys that are tonally awful sounding. The only good thing is it has like an old west saloon sound to it, so a couple of my keyboard playing friends love it for that reason haha.
User avatar #6893 to #6892 - themagicwizard (07/22/2015) [-]
That sounds like the one my friend has. Nobody in his family plays it anymore and I used to go over there all the time and play it. It was kinda terrible, but I wasn't really in a position to say "hey, tune your piano just for me to play it!"
User avatar #6894 to #6893 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
lol there is definitely something charming about a ****** sounding piano though.
User avatar #6895 to #6894 - themagicwizard (07/22/2015) [-]
Sometimes, yeah. The public piano at the top of Mt. Royal in Montreal was alright because it didn't have dead keys. They'd have to bring in a tuner every 2 days to keep it sounding actually in tune.
User avatar #6896 to #6895 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
Public piano? Neat. I wonder how many people have jizzed on the keys!

So... any interesting new music you've discovered lately?
User avatar #6901 to #6900 - themagicwizard (07/22/2015) [-]
Probably, I downloaded a butt load of stuff yesterday, but i haven't listened to any of it.

I have some ambient/dark ambient stuff you might be into: Eric Zann and Wendy Carlos.

Eric Zann is the name of an HP Lovecraft story/character

I can't find anything from the Wendy Carlos album I have, which was really weird because she was actually a pretty big figure in synth music. She did the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange. Sonic Seasonings is the album, if you want to look for it. It's atmospheric ambient music themed around the seasons.
User avatar #6902 to #6901 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
I like it. It's like the music that would be playing if you were microscopic and moving through someone's body.

Also, that artwork is pretty dank, and then I realized that I recognized that Ghost Box is a label I've heard of before. This group I've known of for awhile, The Advisory Circle, is on it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBXzmuFzYLM

For some reason I don't really remember much about the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange. I'll have to check it or just watch the movie again. But that album theme for the other album sounds pretty sweet.
User avatar #6903 to #6902 - themagicwizard (07/22/2015) [-]
I haven't listened to that one, but I downloaded a few other Ghost Box albums: Belbury Poly - The Owl's Map and Mount Vernon Arts Lab - The Séance At Hobs Lane
User avatar #6904 to #6903 - ultrablue (07/22/2015) [-]
Yeah I've heard of Belbury Poly as well, they're another that's on my music notepad list. Definitely some cool stuff on that label.

User avatar #6867 to #6866 - themagicwizard (06/27/2015) [-]
It's pretty good. He's one of the guys from The xx. In Colour is more electronic than the stuff they do as a group. Some perfect night driving tunes.
User avatar #6868 to #6867 - ultrablue (06/27/2015) [-]
This be good. It doesn't sound like it (at least not this song, but one of the others I peeped maybe) but it gives me some of the same vibes that Lone album, Reality Testing, that came out last year gave me. Like summery vibes, but not normal summery vibes, like chill night summery vibes. Vibes.

I also like the rainbowey colored cover. To bring it back to a full gay cycle. I always like rainbow colors. That's partly why I preordered the new 36 physical cd 3six.bandcamp.com/album/void-dance. **** just looks lovely.
User avatar #6869 to #6868 - themagicwizard (06/27/2015) [-]
I knew you'd bring up the gay thing again as soon as you saw the cover art.

Oh me oh moy oh fa la loy, this is some real good stuff.
User avatar #6870 to #6869 - ultrablue (06/27/2015) [-]
Yeah I'm really looking forward to that one. He always has some dank cover art. I came so close to ordering the vinyl for this EP 3six.bandcamp.com/album/sine-dust just because it looks so dang sweet. I dunno, having that around the house to look at would be so cool. I couldn't bring myself to get it though since it was a lot of money + overseas shipping for only 4 songs. Plus I don't even have a record player (I could use my dad's though if I wanted I guess). Anyway, I'm redeeming myself by getting the Void Dance cd.
User avatar #6871 to #6870 - themagicwizard (06/27/2015) [-]
I haven't used my record player in a while. I think I will soon though so I can finally hear what's on all these records I got from Goodwill for sampling.
User avatar #6872 to #6871 - ultrablue (06/27/2015) [-]
How do select your random goodwill records? The weirdest/coolest names or the weirdest/coolest covers or a combination of both?
User avatar #6873 to #6872 - themagicwizard (06/27/2015) [-]
I dunno, different things. I mean, you can get a pretty good idea of the content based on what's on the cover. It's not like I'm always just buying stuff without looking at it for more than 2 seconds. I get stuff like Gregorian chant records and political speeches. Sometimes there is one with a really ridiculous cover that I just get based on that. One of them was of a bunch of figurines with walnut heads, and it was a polka record. We used that one in the "Trilogy of the Tube Snakes" song on soundcloud.

User avatar #6837 to #6836 - themagicwizard (06/21/2015) [-]
I don't generally listen to this type of stuff either, a friend of mine invited me and I just said ok. The show was nuts, I'm so glad I went.

What's up in your territory?
User avatar #6838 to #6837 - ultrablue (06/21/2015) [-]
Sounds sweet. I need to up my concert game this year. I'm at only 1 so far. Got another lined up in July so that'll make 2. Hopefully I can get up to the 4 or 5ish range.

Had to deliver pizza when this ******* tropical storm Bill asshole blew through. I heard tornado warning at one point and I was just like nope and just sat in the store for 40 minutes until the most hideous part of the storm blew over. But there was still hella lightening when I went out on the delivery. No me gusta. Sick of driving in rain.

Then I got home and watched Return of the Jedi. And I just watched the Force Awakens trailer again and cannot contain my hype for the new movie. I want it so bad.
User avatar #6839 to #6838 - themagicwizard (06/21/2015) [-]
I think that was #3 for me this summer. I don't have any others planned, I'm not really sure who's playing around here in the next few months, but I have other plans for the next few weeks anyway.

You're getting on the hype train too early! There are still 6 months to go!
User avatar #6840 to #6839 - ultrablue (06/21/2015) [-]
I know, it sucks. I'm just gonna have to calm down and then re-watch all the movies again in December and get re-hyped.

I'm just chillin out. I just spent a couple days in New Hampshire camping and hiking Mt. Washington, which was awesome. I took some sweet pictures if you want to see some more of them. No music for all that time, so I'm listening to a bunch now. I just found out about this guy:

You and your classical piano jams

Sounds like a rad time. You must be in tip-top shape with all these outdoor activities you do. I on the other hand do nothing of the sort and am wickedly out of shape lol. Anyway that's a pretty sweet picture if you took that. Looks like a treacherous climb though.. well at least for someone with no hiking experience like me heh
#6808 to #6807 - themagicwizard (06/09/2015) [-]
Nah, I'm a fat blob without the fat part. I felt so destroyed after it. I don't do this stuff nearly as much as I want to.

It's the highest peak in New England, a little under 6300ft. We took this one trail that seemed almost vertical, then there was the huge field of boulders at the top. It was so cool, with the clouds constantly pouring over near the top. I took a short video of it.

The piano stuff is so good, I'm learning this right now. I basically have the one for June down, which is finally appropriate.
User avatar #6809 to #6808 - ultrablue (06/09/2015) [-]
Well you do it more than me at least lol

Sweet vid. Looks like a great view. I know there are a good amount of mountains here in VA, not to mention the Appalachian ones, so I know if I ever want to get into it I'm in a good position to do so. Gotta start running again this summer though first so I can trim some of this flab off.

This sounds good for a rainy day. Well, most piano music is really. It was raining off and on today while I was delivering so I was bumping this album www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm5pUHbKpd0 It made the thundershowers more bearable
User avatar #6810 to #6809 - themagicwizard (06/09/2015) [-]
One of the friends I went with was talking about hiking some of the other Appalachian ones. I think it would be awesome. He specifically mentioned Katahdin, which is at the very end of the mountain range and over 1 mile high in Maine. It looks crazy steep.

I just looked up some of the peaks in VA, they look sweet. I'd definitely love to do those too. Mt. Washington has a terrible reputation for bad weather, but those look really pleasant.

That song really sounds like a Soul Square instrumental, some high grade chill beats.
User avatar #6811 to #6810 - ultrablue (06/09/2015) [-]
I took a Geology course years back and there was an optional field trip to go to Sugar Loaf mountain in Maryland. I didn't go (I'm not sure anyone did lol) but looking at it know it looks like something that would be fun to check out. Maryland has some cool stuff. Great Falls is another one. Never been there either but I've heard it's pretty sweet.
User avatar #6812 to #6811 - themagicwizard (06/09/2015) [-]
I'm going to FL in a couple weeks, so just for giggles I looked up its highest point. It's this place called Britton Hill in the panhandle and it's only 345ft above sea level. The lowest high point of any state. The second highest point is also called Sugarloaf Mountain and it's at 312ft.

Some of those bastards didn't even bother to put "new" in front of it. Just about every town around here has the exact name of a town or city in the UK: Redding, Brookfield, Danbury, Wilton, Greenwich, Bristol, etc. Those absolute turdmongers.

Anyway, goodnight.

Lol that's actually pretty cool (the screaming Prurient song). If someone can make weird experimental music but still find a way to make it enjoyable to listen to, then I'm down with it. The Merzbow stuff doesn't really do that for me.

The emptyset song would be ok if it was like, a single song on an album, but I doubt I'd have the attention span to listen to a whole album like that.
User avatar #6778 to #6777 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
I wouldn't call that Prurient album experimental, it just has oddball vocals. I love the synth stuff so much on it, though. Palm Tree Corpse is one of my favorite songs of his.

That video for Collapse is so cool. All the songs I've heard from them sound really similar to that, all intense noisy pulses, but I like that sound so it's fine with me.

That's album cover material right there.
User avatar #6788 to #6787 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
If I was to make an album based on that image, it would be spoken word album of sad fairytales with the speaker's voice mixed in with a bunch of weird electronic stuff.
User avatar #6789 to #6788 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]
I can also seeing this making a good psybient album. I'll pass it along to Shpongle
User avatar #6790 to #6789 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
They better wait until my fairytales album is out
User avatar #6791 to #6790 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]

User avatar #6792 to #6791 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
I guess so, how long is it between their albums usually? I need time to write like 15 - 20 original sad fairytales.
User avatar #6793 to #6792 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]
Like 4 it seems like. So you got about 2 more years.

Get writing. It'll sneak up on you before you know it!
User avatar #6794 to #6793 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
Alright, first I'll need to read some old fairytales to get an idea of what I'm going for. Then I'll need to get some drafts going, maybe you can help with that. When this thing blows up I'll make sure you get a share of the royalties.
User avatar #6795 to #6794 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]
Sweet. It is about time that I put this degree to some good use. Grammy here we come.
User avatar #6757 to #6756 - ultrablue (05/23/2015) [-]
That stinks. I guess that's why I didn't hear anyone ever talk about it after it came out. Poor Neill Blomcrap.

Time for you to go see Mad Max for redemption! :'D
User avatar #6758 to #6757 - themagicwizard (05/23/2015) [-]
I guess I'm going to see it for free right now, actually. Lord bless everyone who gives me movie passes for Christmas.

User avatar #6762 to #6761 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
There is 0 possibility that the sequels would be better. Mad Max was okay. I didn't feel invested in any of the characters at all, they were just kinda there. Guitar guy was the best though. He really made the movie for me, just jamming for 2 1/2 hours.
User avatar #6763 to #6762 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]
I thought the characters were the best part; I thought they were all pretty interesting for the most part.

I just don't know... now check out this great Merzbow album!
User avatar #6772 to #6771 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
I haven't actually listened to that album, it doesn't sound really appealing to me though. I'm listening to a different one by him right now called Amlux and it's actually pretty neat.
User avatar #6773 to #6772 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]
It sounds a bit better. I think still a lil too harsh and grating for my taste though :/
User avatar #6774 to #6773 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
https://youtube.com/devicesupport I was listening to this album recently and a lot of it gets into noisy stuff and I liked it so I thought it was time to check out a less offensive Merzbow album. I'm liking Amlux so far, it's not bashing me over the head with screeches too hard and there's some actual musicality to it that I can identify.
User avatar #6775 to #6774 - ultrablue (05/24/2015) [-]
I mean this is good. I checked another song that did have the noisey elements, and I could dig it, because it had like cool synth melodies over it. Amlux is like, dark ambient mixed with harsh noise, or whatever.

But yeah, Prurient sounds purty swell.
User avatar #6776 to #6775 - themagicwizard (05/24/2015) [-]
Amlux is actually really rhythmic, I'm in the second half of Looping Jane and it's so cool sounding. If you don't jump into the middle of it, the rhythms stand out a lot more than any grating qualities it has, to me at least. It really reminds me of Emptyset, but less forceful:

Prurient has some really weird stuff. If you look through some tracks on that album you'll find some with him screaming odd things behind all the synth stuff. This is from one of his older albums:
User avatar #6712 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
Ey did you hear about the new Geotic?
User avatar #6753 to #6712 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]
I literally knew nothing about it, including the old movies; I don't even think I saw the trailer for it. Some friends just suggested we go. It's very themed, which I liked. It had all this unexplained, or not deeply explained, lore that was interesting even if I didn't get all of it. I thought it had some great memorable characters too. And it is a bit goofy and funny at times, but it kind of works, at least in my opinion. This isn't really a spoiler for the story, but if you ever did want to see it I suggest letting this be a surprise, but I have to tell you if you don't really care, which I assume you probably dont. A lot revolves around the characters like driving these weird cars and **** , and so at one point a bunch of the bad guys are chasing the good guys, and the bad guys have this one rig, that's like a bunch of guys on the back playing these drums, and on the front is just this guy playing a guitar with a flamethrower coming out the neck, all while they're chasing these dudes. It's ******* hilarious, but somewhat awesome in it's hilarity, cause they always just pan to him jamming away during all the action lol

Anyway, if you feel like it, give it a chance. It seems kinda dumb at face value I can admit, but it was actually a pretty great experience. The more I ruminate on it, the more I like it.
User avatar #6754 to #6753 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
I felt more and more American the further I got into that description. USA USA USA USA. I'll probably see it if it comes around to that $2 theater. Also, listen to Arterial by Lusine if you haven't done that yet, it's so good.

I'm going to get some sleep. Good luck with all that butt hurt.
User avatar #6755 to #6754 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]
I will listen to it. Maybe tonight. Maybe not. Idk. I did get the Flashlight EP so I've been jamming that the past few days. So good.

Have a great, Interstellar hate filled sleep ))
User avatar #6713 to #6712 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]

User avatar #6733 to #6713 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
I didn't know you were such a Spongebob scholar. I must have somehow missed like every episode after that because I'm looking it up now and literally every one I remember is from the first 3 seasons. That means there are 6 whole seasons of garbage defaming Spongebob's good name. Good lord, have mercy on that poor sponge.
User avatar #6734 to #6733 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]
Oh you have no idea. My friends and I still quote Springboob all the ******* time, and we've had many discussions about how much it sucks that it went so downhill. I wonder how Tom Kenny can even sleep at night knowing he has to voice for such piss poor scripts. I'm sure the solid gold toilet in his house helps a bit.
User avatar #6735 to #6734 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
I guess he just tries to repress it and focuses on his better work. He does Ice King on Adventure Time, doesn't he?
User avatar #6736 to #6735 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]
Yeah he does. Haven't ever really gotten into that show tbh. I checked a few episodes and it seemed decent though.
User avatar #6737 to #6736 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
It's a great show, it definitely ranks among my favorites. It gets very surreal and unsettling sometimes, especially with that lemon guy.
#6738 to #6737 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]
I'll check some more soon at some point I'm sure.

I'm still not sure though that any modern cartoon can match the majesty that The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack had though. I will never get over them cancelling that show. And people from Flapjack work on Adventure Time and I think one of the creators went on to make The Regular Show, but still.. Can't top Flapjack imo
User avatar #6740 to #6738 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
I never watched Flapjack except maybe 1.5 episodes cumulatively. Sounds like something I should check out as long as I'm living this NEET life for the next month or 2.

Hahaha neet life. I had to look that term up. Sweet ***** .

But yeah, you should, I think you'd dig it. The guy who does the voice for Captain K'nuckles is the same guy who did the Flying Dutchman in Spongebob.

I didn't catch it, but I suppose I should be glad I didn't now.

You guys need to move on to ******** on something else, that movie came out like 6 months ago or something, maybe more. You're so behind the times you might as well be playing dad rock as well hahehehahahehehhoho
User avatar #6746 to #6745 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
I'm not sure if you're making a cheeky joke or it's just a beautiful coincidence. The whole show was us playing dad rock and butt rock and challenging people to call in and accurately identify which was which.
User avatar #6747 to #6746 - ultrablue (05/22/2015) [-]
I think I'm really glad I missed it now. I can only take so much dad rock and butt rock in one sitting. Mostly dad rock though.
User avatar #6748 to #6747 - themagicwizard (05/22/2015) [-]
The best part was that someone actually called in and gave it a shot. Towards the end we played Coward from the Interstellar soundtrack and Randall was sitting in the corner and started muttering about "m-muh oxygen..." and then we started ******** on Hans Zimmer and Interstellar.

I think I'll skip on that pile of dook. I'm going to see Chappie some time in the next few days. Hopefully that'll have some doofy junk to make fun of, I'm also hoping it's good though. I still hold out a little hope that Neill Blomkamp can make more great movies. None of us actually hate Interstellar, it's just fun and easy to joke about. User avatar #6700 to #6699 - themagicwizard (05/13/2015) [-]
That's only really big budget stuff. All the indie games are ****** chiptune garbage oh my god I ******* hate chiptune WHY THE **** DO PEOPLE LIKE CHIPTUNE IT'S THE ******* WORST I WANT TO KILL MYSELF WHENEVER I HEAR THOSE GOD DAMN SYNTHS IT'S LIKE SATAN IS RAPING ME IN THE EARS AND ANY OTHER ORIFICE HE CAN FORCE HIMSELF INTO JESUS CHRIST.

You know? You can still do it. I really love the soundtrack to Chex Quest too, that game that came in cereal boxes in the late 90s or whenever it was. It has a similar sound, but more electronic.
User avatar #6701 to #6700 - ultrablue (05/13/2015) [-]
I mean yeah, I know the chiptune stuff is popular now with smaller games. Still, that stuff (the quality stuff) sounds very polished too. Polish is the hardest part about writing/producing music on the computer I think.

You ever heard the Fez soundtrack? You might dig that. It's very IDMey and BoCish at times. music.disasterpeace.com/album/fez-ost
User avatar #6702 to #6701 - themagicwizard (05/13/2015) [-]
I don't actually hate chiptune, I just wanted to use FJ's text functions.

https://youtube.com/devicesupport It's like Groundislava with the beats element toned down. I dig this kind of stuff. You're right, making stuff sound polished is definitely the hard part. There's so much you can do with just the synths themselves too, so you could get kinda lost just doing that. When you can change every little aspect of something it's hard to tell when you really have it where you want it.
User avatar #6703 to #6702 - ultrablue (05/13/2015) [-]
I know about Groundislava. Good stuff right thur.

Yeah. I feel like things like that are what separate real great musicians from just regular people. I feel like most people with some knowledge of melody and music notation can pull up FL studio and make something, but making it sound good whilst creating something somewhat unique is what makes you the **** .
User avatar #6704 to #6703 - themagicwizard (05/13/2015) [-]

On an unrelated note; should I get this? radiojuicy.com/album/nudus-cactus

I really don't listen to much foreign rap (outside of features on instrumental albums) but something about this is so compelling and ill... Even though I can't understand it, I kind of think it's ******* sick. I know we discussed different languages the other night, but I feel it's different for rap since lyrics are more important. But I dunno, maybe it really doesn't matter. I like how this sounds still. Also, the production is sweet as well. I think that's what sells it for me.
User avatar #6685 to #6684 - themagicwizard (05/03/2015) [-]

Thanks mane, maybe one day I can do the soundtrack to the infinitely worse remake.

It feels so good to be done with almost everything. Tomorrow I'm going to work on a ridiculous plunderphonics sampling thing along the lines of VC for this electronic music event that might be happening when the semester ends. I feel like it won't end up happening, but it'll be fun to make anyway. It'll probably end up on our soundcloud soon.
User avatar #6654 to #6653 - ultrablue (05/03/2015) [-]

i dunno, I don't think I like anything particularly shameful. The plebbiest movie I ever pirated was Guardians of the Galaxy because I just wanted to see how it was. I should delete that, it drags down my film cred.

Some movies I do like are Donnie Darko, Dr. Strangelove (etc...), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alice in Wonderland, Zoolander, Phone Booth, American Psycho, Zodiac, In Bruges and Lawrence of Arabia.
User avatar #6636 to #6635 - ultrablue (05/02/2015) [-]
American Psycho is the best.

Donnie Darko is the best too.

Some of those others I've seen are pretty good. Haven't seen some. Dr. Strangelove is on my list of movies to watch soon.

Alice in Wonderland is the only one that I've seen that I thought was meh.

So there it is. I will **** on that movie for all eternity every time you bring up Interstellar. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I saw on facebook that they were streaming it on some website the other day so that might be what the rip is from. I didn't check it, but the songs that they already released that I've heard are awesome.

I do. But no. I'm definitely not rectifying the situation. You can't make me.

I listen to them, yeah. Though, the only album I have is Mezzanine.

This sounds very different from that though (as do most of their albums). Pretty sweet though. I love atypical movie soundtracks, as you know. Never even heard of the movie though haha
User avatar #6625 to #6624 - themagicwizard (05/02/2015) [-]
I've never seen it, I assume it's about gang violence in London. Might be worth a look soon. The soundtrack reminds me a little bit of some parts of 100th Window, their album after Mezzanine, but it's really its own thing style-wise.

User avatar #6627 to #6626 - themagicwizard (05/02/2015) [-]
That's some good niceness, mane. There are so many soundtracks I've forgotten about that I really love. i went through that whole soundtracks phase where cuts from movie scores were the only things I listened to. This reminded me of that, so I'm going to download them and check them out again. Starting with The Fountain.
Clint Mansell - Death is the Road to Awe

Clint Mansell is the man. Never saw the Fountain (though I'd like to), but everything else that I've seen that he's scored is great (both soundtrack and movie wise; Moon, Pi, Requiem, Black Swan.

Maybe that's it. I feel like it has something to do with hearing it so much in my life, whether from TV, people in real life (a lot of hispanic people leave around here), classes, etc. I dunno. It just feels like... weird.. Or maybe because I don't really like latin music and what not and I just can't help but associate it with that even if it's in a genre of music I like.

I'm trying to convince some of my lame ass friends to come chill in Florida for a bit this summer. Hopefully there won't be sharks in the water all the time this year. What an inconvenience!
User avatar #6550 to #6549 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
Are there usually sharks in Florida's waters? I haven't been. In fact I've only been to a few select beaches on the east coast. Usually it's just jellyfish, dolphins, and maybe a horseshoe crab or two.
User avatar #6551 to #6550 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
Yeah, the world's largest shark migration passes right by it on the east coast.
User avatar #6553 to #6552 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
I was there 2 years ago and like every day we went to the beach, there would be huge schools of fish flopping around so it looked like the water was boiling just a few yards off shore, so everyone was really suspicious of what was in there with them. I went in on a calm day and saw a little shark that was like 2 feet long just sitting there. I also swam in the fish schools when they weren't freaking out and it was pretty sweet.
User avatar #6554 to #6553 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
That sounds like fish rape. Did any go up your bathing suit?

User avatar #6559 to #6558 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
Hawaii is awesome. I stayed in one of the spots where there were very few people, so it was even better. That was a while ago so it might have changed, but I'd bet it's still awesome.

You should go to Cuba.
User avatar #6560 to #6559 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
I really wanna go to Hawaii. Going with family would be cool, but I'd love to go with friends and just explore a bunch cause there's a lot of neat **** besides just the beaches. That sounds so ******* appealing right now, **** . I want.

Cuba... eh maybe. It sounds alright from my friend's talks about it, but I feel like other places are more appealing to me currently. I mean, I guess certain aspects of it are cool, but it's not on top of my lists of places to go to.
User avatar #6561 to #6560 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
Cuba just for the novelty of going to Cuba.

I was little when I went so I just did little kid family stuff. We hiked to some cool spots with rock carvings and got one of the locals to give us an illegal tour of a sacred lava tube, though. That was pretty sweet. There was like a royal skeleton in there with offerings and stuff. I think that may have had an impact on who I am today. There were also neat tide pools with all kinds of tide pool dwelling animals.
User avatar #6521 to #6500 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
Haha I think you showed me that before (the clarinet dude). He shreds.

But yes. Why do you think this is like one of the best songs ever? Bonobo - 'Black Sands'

Though, I think that's a soprano sax he's playing, not a clarinet. But **** it, it's close enough.
User avatar #6522 to #6521 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
>completely different instrument
>close enough

You really are a piece of work **** .

Definitely one of my favorite Bonobo songs, though. The first wind instrument sounds like it could be a clarinet, if that's what you're talking about.
User avatar #6523 to #6522 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
Don't question my knowledge of instruments, ***** . I was in middle school band. I know everything.

It's close enough because they do sound similar, and they look kinda similar too (the sax is gold colored doe). The only reason I know the hornist (lol) plays it is because there are live videos of him with it. I think... I just look up a vid of black sands live and he is playing clarinet, but I swear to god I've seen him playing a soprano sax too.

Anyway, bottom line is shut up, you nincompoop.

Next time I pass a halal cart in NYC, I'll stop and say a prayer for you. But I won't get anything because I'm not paying $8 for chicken on a stick from a street vendor.

Good. I hear street meat is supremely bowel movement inducing.

I haven't had that problem myself. I think a friend of mine has, but he's always been suspiciously unlucky. He must worship some pagan idol or something.

Pagan idol? You mean Santa???? That old, fat pervert?

User avatar #6539 to #6538 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
I already have, I don't know what he made of it though. I've successfully gotten my Lebanese friend to like Omar. Still working on getting him to put it on the playlist for the restaurant he works at.
User avatar #6540 to #6539 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
I should convince the cooks at my work to play some Omar instead of the hispanic/latino music they bump all the time.

Well it sounds like you're really on the ball over there.

Listening to some Bonobo from way back in 2010. So ready to get these finals over with. I've just gone into full on slack mode and I've been listening to music and watching cartoons all day. I had a good ol' These New Puritans marathon earlier listening to all of their studio albums back to back. They're such a great progression of style.
User avatar #6515 to #6514 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
Model student over here. I'm trying to forget that feeling of end of semester blues. Sounds like you got an alright remedy though. I still haven't heard a full TNP album other than Field of Reeds, though I will eventually check out another. Probably the one before Field of Reeds. Is that called Pyramids or something?
User avatar #6516 to #6515 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
Their first one is Beat Pyramid, the middle one is Hidden.
User avatar #6517 to #6516 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]

Well, one of those I guess. Hidden is like really loud and heavy right? I've checked out the itunes previews a few times.
User avatar #6518 to #6517 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
Yeah, some of the tracks have a really heavy vibe, but it's also kind of a middle ground between Beat Pyramid and Field of Reeds. You'll definitely hear it if you listen to Beat Pyramid too. Lots of great bassoon stuff or whatever instrument that is that they're so fond of.
User avatar #6519 to #6518 - ultrablue (04/28/2015) [-]
AND CLARINETS TOO??? You have no idea how much I love clarinets in contemporary music. There need to be more. In fact, every band/artist should have at least 5 songs with clarinet in them.
User avatar #6520 to #6519 - themagicwizard (04/28/2015) [-]
These New Puritans - Canticle [Hidden] There might be, I bet there are. Dont take my word for it though, I'm not a professional clarinet identifier.

Ivo Papazov - Dance of the Falcon, Kaba zurna Here's a Bulgarian dude ripping it apart on the clarinet.

I agree, by the way.

User avatar #6470 to #6469 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
I thought briefly about buying it for my One, but I don't really feel like shelling out another $60 for the same game with better graphics
User avatar #6471 to #6470 - themagicwizard (04/24/2015) [-]
The price will drop eventually, if you still have interest in it. Being years behind the hype is awesome for singleplayer games.
User avatar #6472 to #6471 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
I mean, I had fun while playing before. So possibly down the road, sure. But I have so many games I haven't even played yet at the moment that I'm not really worried about it.
User avatar #6473 to #6472 - themagicwizard (04/24/2015) [-]
Same, If I get an Assbox One eventually, I might get it for that too if it's really cheap. Still squeezing all the fun out of Reach at the moment. RIP in peace, Bungie Halo games.
User avatar #6474 to #6473 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
lol I played a bit of the Halo 5 beta that came out awhile back at my friends house. It was.... kind of odd honestly. I feel like they're getting more Call of Duty (at least in the multiplayer) with every release.
User avatar #6475 to #6474 - themagicwizard (04/24/2015) [-]
Halo 4's multiplayer was definitely still enjoyable, especially the big team gametypes. Those maps are great, but it definitely felt different. Even though Reach added armor abilities, it still really felt like traditional Halo multiplayer. I played Halo 3 online last week and it was still great. There were only a couple hundred people total still playing it when I was online.
User avatar #6476 to #6475 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
I like Halo 4 multiplayer, and some of the maps are pretty good, but some were really ******* annoying, and I hate the voting aspect because everyone always votes for the same few **** maps.

I like the power ups in Reach; jetpacking 24/7. Reach is definitely great, no qualms with that game. I should play the campaign again soon, I only played through it twice. Same with Halo 4 actually.

The first 3 games are classic though and I've played those campaigns a million times.
User avatar #6477 to #6476 - themagicwizard (04/24/2015) [-]
Yeah, I only played the Halo 4 campaign once. It was fun but the story felt pretty overblown. Reach's campaign is another really strong one, Bungie definitely did a good job with it. It had a different feel though, very tragic. Those poor fictional characters

Some of the map choices for Halo 4's playlists were just wrong. There was that one map for SWAT that was like 6x too big. Everyone votes for the same maps in Reach too. I don't know why they ever gave any say to the players in picking maps, PEOPLE JUST **** EVERYTHING UP!!!!!

You can do online co-op with Halo 3's campaign I think. Y-you interested?
User avatar #6478 to #6477 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
Halo 4's story is definitely not that memorable. It's also very muddled and yes, overblown I agree. They just tried to add all this new odd stuff that was all complicated and I was just like "k."

I'm down for that. I just need to renew my gold first lol. Actually I do have a 14 day trial I could use I suppose. I also need to get a little table for my 360 since the stand I have my tv and consoles on is now too full for another console without obstructing the screen. The firstest of world problems.
User avatar #6479 to #6478 - themagicwizard (04/24/2015) [-]
I'm on my second free month of gold. I'm such a leech. I have 2 accounts and I haven't used either of them in so long that Microsoft felt compelled to offer each of them a free month to try out gold. This one runs out the 18th of next month. I might just renew it after that though, I dunno.

I wish I was as first world as you. I'm running low on space for game cases, but that's about it. I don't see that problem growing significantly worse in the near future anyway.
User avatar #6480 to #6479 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
Same here. Like I said, too many games I haven't even played yet. Xbox One games, Wii U games, steam games, hell, I still have one of two 360 games I haven't played/beaten yet.

You should get an Assplox Pun at some point though, cause I wanna get GTAV soon and we can play it online then. God I really wanna play that game. I loved GTAIV and I never got 5 because I knew my hard drive didn't have the memory to play it, so now that I have the Cox Sun I can finally get that **** . MMMMMMMM.
User avatar #6481 to #6480 - themagicwizard (04/24/2015) [-]
Maybe, I don't really feel like dropping a couple hundred on a ********* One right now, but I might feel differently if I can get some dolo rolling in soon.

I've never owned a GTA game or played one for more than a couple minutes. Seems entertaining though.
User avatar #6482 to #6481 - ultrablue (04/24/2015) [-]
They are really ******* fun. Honestly, I feel like you would love it. Especially playing online in free mode. Literally some of my favorite times with GTAIV were just ******* around online with my friends in free mode. It was like when we were ******* around in Destiny that one time except x 50.
