Yeah, but game-changing updates are more acceptable in early release games - this looks like a major feature that should have been included out of the bat. I understand it's a small team, but that's exactly the reason they should have been less ambitious.

Still, looking forward to it - the game is a blast and base building will be exactly the kick it needs

The fact they were this ambitious and fairly successful, proves that a lot of the game developers that say "we are a small team, sorry the game is crap" are just being stupid. Also the fact they are adding huge features for FREE, shows that they are devoted to making this game great.
If you don't like it now, give them a little time to build it up.

If they're adding those features so early into the game's lifespan, it's a sign that they were likely planned from the start and they shipped an unfinished game to comply with Sony's launch date/pricing scheme.

I can't say this enough: I like NMS. Liking NMS doesn't meant I need to drink the kool-aid in everything. They marketed an indie game as an AAA and as a result they had the sloppiest launch in a while.
