In part yes, but I refer more to the mentality with which those orders are implemented and with which power is wielded.
I won't pretend that this problem is new to this presidency; As government grows its various appendages gather up more power and the presidency is not immune. But I will say that this president has only exacerbated the issue.
So I speak of the mentality with which these orders are passed and other actions are taken. What troubles me most is the willing to accomplish an agenda by any means available. It seems to me that the president is convinced that his agenda is correct and it thus should be imposed on the nation. regardless of how beneficial his policies may or may not be, he acts more like an authoritarian than a leader of a republic.
A good leader of this nation, in my opinion, should be well aware of the power he wields and should wield such power with careful deliberation and with respect to the freedoms of the people. I don't see this from this president or many of the recent ones either. . He has been too eager to use the force of government, except in situations where our documents clearly outline the necessity of governmental power.
I can sum this up best like this: The president has been far too willing to force everyone to purchase health insurance, but reluctant to aid Americans having their heads sliced off in foreign lands.
When I talk about restraint with federal power I mean this: George Washington willingly gave up the presidency after two terms, ceding power and setting a precedent that was not broken for many years afterward.
Another good example off of the top of my head is Chris Christie: He's not exactly someone I see eye to eye with on a good number of issues, but he does display some good qualities of leadership (for a politician). When dealing with his scandal, he took responsibility and informed the public of what actions were being taken to correct the situation. He did not, unlike the president, tell everyone that he found out about what was happening in his own administration when the general public did. Two very distinct applications (or lack thereof) of leadership.
